As posted previously (see 15 December 2010 post), we have two favorite places to go for solid down-to-earth breakfasts. On December 15th, I posted about The Original Pancake House. Today, we had breakfast at our other favorite, Koa Pancake House in Kaneohe (there is an official Koa Pancake House website, but this location is not listed, (the link is to Yelp)).

The Sign
On this visit, both The Cat had their early bird, two eggs (any style) and three buttermilk pancakes.

Early Bird Special
Most times, I order the Paniolo, bowl of chili, rice, scrambled eggs.

The Paniolo
Their chili is pretty good. I usually get a side of buttermilk pancakes (short stack) (Hard to not order pancakes if the restaurant has “pancake” in its name). Today, we got in early enough to order the early bird special. The early bird special is a little cheaper than the short stack of pancakes, and you get two eggs thrown in with the deal. The Chineseย pake genes kicked in and I ordered the early bird special too. ๐ Don’t worry, I skipped lunch.
My easy-over eggs went on top of my rice (I don’t think I had to tell you that, but just in case).

The Mouse's Breakfast (Savory Part)
A very good Christmas morning.
By far, The Cat’s favorite thing at Koa Pancake House is their homemade orange syrup. The Cat said its the bestest (we know, not a word, but the syrup is better than best) ever.

Trio of Syrups (Orange Syrup on Bottom Right)
I’m not sure you can see it in the picture but the orange syrup contains fresh orange zest (think tart liquid marmalade). Usually, The Cat uses the whole container and sometimes asks for a refill (if I’m lucky, I get a smidgen). I agree, the orange syrup is good.
Both breakfast places have different strengths. The Original Pancake House has more variety of pancakes while Koa Pancake House has that orange syrup. Both have excellent staffs that make you feel your at your favorite aunty’s kitchen.
Hoping for a happy Christmas (and whirled peas) to all.
Enjoy.
