Not a Typo

Intrigued by the pictures and reviews on Yelp, tried here for lunch today.

Noren

Noren

Why hang Japanese kitchen curtains in a “Chinese” restaurant? Dunno, maybe it’s cheaper than hanging doors.

And who came up with the name? Sigh.

Anyway, the two signs outside enticed The Mouse.

OK ...

OK …

Even Better

Even Better

With the discount, price not much more than a “decent” plate lunch, and drinks and dessert included. The pake in The Mouse smiles.

What piqued The Mouse’s interest was the pictures and comments on their char siu and roast pork. So, The Mouse’s first plate.

Roast Pork, Char Siu, Stir-Fried Napa Cabbage, Pot Stickers, Broccoli

Roast Pork, Char Siu, Stir-Fried Napa Cabbage, Pot Stickers, Broccoli

Hmm. Roast pork was decent, can’t compare to still on the hook in Chinatown, but passable. The char siu? Meh. But (almost) any char siu is better than none.

Egg Fu Yung, Deep Fried Tofu, Kung Pao Chicken, Beef Stew, More Roast Pork

Egg Fu Yung, Deep Fried Tofu, Beef Broccoli,  Kung Pao Chicken, Beef Stew, Mapo Tofu, More Roast Pork

Everything on the plate was serviceable, the surprise was the beef stew, must’ve been a really cheap cut of meat, but simmered for a loooooong time, “almost like buttah”. The cartiledge, fat, and little bit of meat melding together into a little bite of ahhh!

There was also a salad bar, but nothing for The Mouse to want to give up limited tummy space for.

Egg Drop Soup

Egg Drop Soup

Was okay, too much corn starch.

Coconut Tapioca

Mung Bean Dessert Soup

The mung bean soup was pretty good.

Chocolate Pudding

All in all, not bad, not the greatest, but not bad. The restaurant has a contract with one of the Chinese airlines to feed the flight crew after all. Good thing there’s a Kama‘aina discount. Probably would feel different at full price.

Soda and tea included.

Try try.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Signature Recipe

Not The Mouse’s.

The Mouse’s father was not a wiz in the kitchen. He could boil water, fry eggs and SPAM, toast bread, cook rice. On days he had to cook, one of his go-to dishes turned out pretty good … to a kid at least.

The dish started with rice.

Today, The Mouse used microwavable rice.

So, here’s where The Mouse’s father takes over.

Hot Rice, a couple of Pats of Butter, Splash of Shoyu

Tah-dah! Mix well, eat.

The deluxe dish was add an egg, raw or fried. 🙂

Thanks dad!

Enjoy. Eat well.

Nutin’ fancy, no caviar, no wine, etc. It’s The Cat’s busy season. V-Day dinner is postponed.

The Mouse did a little more eating than usual tho’.

It kinda started the day before, students were having a bake sale on campus for one of their endeavors.

The Mouse picked up a treat.

Rum Cake

Rum Cake

And yes, The Mouse shared it with The Cat. 🙂

Lunch was multi-course.

Fruits, Mushrooms, Cucumber Salad

Fruits, Mushrooms, Cucumber Salad

Dunno what it is, The Mouse has been scarfing mushrooms at any chance lately.

Turkey Sandwich

Turkey Sandwich

From the cold table. minimally dressed with mayo, tiny bit of onions, tomato, and pickles.

Multen Lava Cake

Molten Lava Cake

Wasn’t hot, but still good.

After all that eating, The Mouse ate “light”.

Maple Bacon Donut

Maple Bacon Donut

The Mouse had stopped in at Donut King in the morning to pick up donut holes for the office, and since he was there … Hee hee.

Didn’t get a chance to eat it during the day. Brought it home for “dinner”. “Life’s too short, eat dessert first”. 🙂

The Cat wanted something warm, squishy, and soupy.

The Cat's Boiled Dinner

The Cat’s Boiled Dinner

Seaweed, fried tofu, sweet potato, and edamame. Salt to taste.

Chefs gave The Cat and The Mouse a little something to nibble on.

The Box

Two chocolate dipped strawberries.

Perishable. Must. Eat. Now.

Lately, whenever we eat at Ruby Tuesday, The Mouse’s order is the same, three sides (spaghetti squash, broccoli, and zucchini) with salad bar.

Plate #1

Mushrooms, broccoli, French dressing, bacon. 🙂

Plate #3

Plate #3

Similar to plate #1. Plate #2 was different, potato salad, pasta salad, cole slaw, fruit, but The Mouse forgot to take a picture. Was really into the mushrooms and broccoli Sunday.

There’s a very pake reason for being a creature of habit, The Mouse can eat his fill on the salad bar and take the vegetables home for lunch the next day. Two meals! Plus, the order is one of the cheaper dishes on the menu that includes the salad bar. Ka-chang! Hee hee!

The Cat was more up to trying something new.

ATM Benedict with Fruit Bowl

ATM Benedict with Fruit Bowl

Can’t find description on-line (“what does ATM mean???), but, it was vegetarian with avocado, tomato, and mushrooms (if I had to guess).

We arrived just between breakfast and lunch. The Cat ordered breakfast, The Mouse ordered “lunch”. Perfect.

The Mouse's Lunch

The Mouse’s Lunch

Zucchini and spaghetti squash. 🙂

Hope you had a happy Valentine’s day (if you are so inclined).

Enjoy. Eat well.
