Friday turned out to be a pretty good day, food-wise.
Started with a SPAM musubi.

SPAM Musubi with Egg
It was okay. The slight char of the SPAM was good, and the little omelet was a plus, but the ratio of rice and SPAM was off. Sorry, kind of a snob when it comes to SPAM musubi. Would I buy it again? Maybe, not on a regular basis though.
Lunch was a change-up from the usual for the past couple of months (lau lau and kalua pork)

Mix Plate
Blackened tuna with sweet wasabi cream and fried tuna poke, no rice, all greens. From the same lunch wagon. Both were done well given the health department’s requirement that food served from mobile food businesses cannot be “raw”, except for salads. Both fish were a little tough (just a little), but the flavors compensated for the lack of “rareness”.
Dinner with the cuz’s (the D&G cuzs, not the B&P cuzs) and friends at Haleiwa Joe’s at Haiku Gardens. Got there late, only had time to order and eat. Went with a salad.

Ginger Peanut Chicken Salad
A lightly marinated, grilled chicken breast, sliced & served on fresh baby greens with a spicy ginger dressing & roasted peanuts. The greens and dress was good, although did not get too much of the spicy ginger part, the chicken was more like chicken at a seminar lunch … meh. Lighted up the dish with the mini flashlights (too dark, iPhone 3G no flash :))

Sticky Ribs
The Cat’s order. ½ rack of baby back pork ribs cooked in our soy-ginger sauce, char-grilled. Served with rice & green papaya salad. The ribs were fall off the bone tender. The Cat at first didn’t care for the smoky taste but got used to it. The Mouse likes smoky.  The green papaya salad? Next time leave it to the experts … pass. Definitely would order the ribs again.
All in all, not a bad Friday.
Have a safe Memorial Day tomorrow (if it is a holiday for you).
Enjoy. Eat well.
The Mouse
