After dinner snack, picked up while waiting for the bus to go home.

From Minamoto Kitchoan. This one filled with green tea flavored white beans and chestnut. Yum! More palatable than the green smoothie (just my opinion). Nice green tea flavor, The Cat ate the chestnuts.

They stopped making the purple sweet potato and chocolate varieties. I wonder why. Maybe not enough demand. 😦

Today is lau lau day! 🙂 Have a good weekend!

Enjoy. Eat well.

Green

Lanikai Juice opened near the office. Kinda like Jamba but on a local scale? Never tried them before although they’ve been around 15 + years.

The store is in my pathway between the bus stop and the office. Took it as a sign.

Good thing about their menu, lots of selections are dairy free. Stomach approves.

Tried one of their green smoothies (sorry forgot the name). I remember there was kale in it.

Uhm. Not bad, green and fruity taste. Marvel comics and Kermit’s song come to mind (sorry, mind wandered off). Not sure I like drinking my vegetables (except for V-8). Probably rather have them in salads. Had to try though.

Enjoy. Eat well.

My new favorite pastry.

Picked up with my coffee.

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Dark Roast

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Dark Roast

On my way to church Monday (had extra work to do).

Kinda like a combination of honey bran muffin, fruit cake (I happen to like good fruit cake), and prune cake. It’s a good thing there’s no outlet nearby, could be dangerous. Now if there only some bacon bits in it (just kidding, just kidding), hmmm. 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.

Always a challenge on Sundays. Eating well without breaking the wallet. Did you know one little breakfast burrito at Mickey D’s is 300 calories? And probably loaded with fat, salt, and all the other “stuff”. Eww!

Picked this up at the drug/convenience store waiting for my bus transfer.

Convenience Pack

Convenience Pack

Six ounces each of poi and lomi salmon. All for less than four bucks! Cheap eats!

Sorry, added a splash of soy sauce before taking the picture.

Poi!

Lomi Salmon

The poi was a bit stiff, more like soft tofu than paste, not bad though. The lomi salmon was decent enough. All in all, a good alternative to SPAM musubi. Although not as easy to eat on the run, the convenience pack at least makes it “portable”. 🙂

Hope the store carries it on a regular basis.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Friday Food Day

Friday turned out to be a pretty good day, food-wise.

Started with a SPAM musubi.

SPAM Musubi with Egg

SPAM Musubi with Egg

It was okay. The slight char of the SPAM was good, and the little omelet was a plus, but the ratio of rice and SPAM was off. Sorry, kind of a snob when it comes to SPAM musubi. Would I buy it again? Maybe, not on a regular basis though.

Lunch was a change-up from the usual for the past couple of months (lau lau and kalua pork)

Mix Plate

Blackened tuna with sweet wasabi cream and fried tuna poke, no rice, all greens. From the same lunch wagon. Both were done well given the health department’s requirement that food served from mobile food businesses cannot be “raw”, except for salads. Both fish were a little tough (just a little), but the flavors compensated for the lack of “rareness”.

Dinner with the cuz’s (the D&G cuzs, not the B&P cuzs) and friends at Haleiwa Joe’s at Haiku Gardens. Got there late, only had time to order and eat. Went with a salad.

Ginger Peanut Chicken Salad

Ginger Peanut Chicken Salad

A lightly marinated, grilled chicken breast, sliced & served on fresh baby greens with a spicy ginger dressing & roasted peanuts. The greens and dress was good, although did not get too much of the spicy ginger part, the chicken was more like chicken at a seminar lunch … meh. Lighted up the dish with the mini flashlights (too dark, iPhone 3G no flash :))

Sticky Ribs

Sticky Ribs

The Cat’s order. ½ rack of baby back pork ribs cooked in our soy-ginger sauce, char-grilled. Served with rice & green papaya salad. The ribs were fall off the bone tender. The Cat at first didn’t care for the smoky taste but got used to it. The Mouse likes smoky.  The green papaya salad? Next time leave it to the experts … pass. Definitely would order the ribs again.

All in all, not a bad Friday.

Have a safe Memorial Day tomorrow (if it is a holiday for you).

Enjoy. Eat well.
