A Minion Lunch

The Cat fed her minions yesterday (one was having a birthday), Shokudo Japanese Restaurant and Bar.

The Cat brought a taste home in a mousey bag for The Mouse to try. The grilled onions and watercress were excellent, the pork chop wasn’t bad either. 🙂

Of course, no meal would be complete at Shokudo without …

What? no candle? Oh well.

BTW. The Cat and The Mouse will be off-line for scheduled maintenance for one day (tomorrow), maybe two. Not to worry, broadcasting will return to normal momentarily.

Have a good weekend!

Enjoy. Eat well.

More Chicken and Egg

But first, The Cat wanted The Mouse to post a picture of her breakfast yesterday.

The Cat's Breakfast

The Cat’s Breakfast

Kiwi, banana, plum, taro bread.

On to the main event.

The Mouse’s lunch.

Special of the day at Kokoro Tei.

Omurice!

Omurice!

One of my favorite dishes, right up there with oyako don. Small-kid time, whenever we went out to eat at a Japanese restaurant, I would order oyako don. Simple to eat, not complicated, plus it was usually one of the cheaper dishes on the menu.

Enter omurice, different but similar. For small-kid, tastes were more complex, yet not so out there that it wasn’t manageable. Plus, the ingredients were all familiar, rice, ketchup, egg, chicken. Just mixed together in a different way. Winner!

So, Kokoro Tei only offers omurice once or twice a month. Mouth was watering for almost a month. 🙂

This one was more upscale than what I’m used to (think Tampopo). Ketchup fried rice with chicken, egg, demi glace sauce, salad, rolled omelet, pasta salad, and pickled turnip. Big yum!

Before the rains really let loose, a quick trip to the farmers market.

Dragon Fruit

According to the vendor, the red flesh are sweeter (and more expensive) than the white flesh.

Smoked Meat (Pork)

The “SM” on the package is “smoked meat” not the other stuff. Hee hee!

So, finally I picked up pa‘i‘ai and smoked meat together.

Tried pan frying the pa‘i‘ai (at the suggestion of a couple of people).

Mouse Plate

Smoked meat, celery, banana, fried pa‘i‘ai with Kaua‘i sea salt. Awesome. While the fried pa‘i‘ai was great, I think I still prefer out of the package (even refrigerated).

Enjoy. Eat well.

All Clear, I Think

Much mahalo for your concern. Sorry to scare you. Could’ve been worse. Rain, lightening, thunder, power surges, internet connection hiccups. Turned off the computer.

Yesterday, shopping for a few storm essentials. Stayed close to home. Picked up two plate lunches from the grocery store. Always wanted to try (cheap eats) but didn’t know what The Cat would think. Since she came along, she could pick.

Even got their own take-out boxes. Cute ya?

Since it’s a grocery store, not a full scale take-out joint, limited choices daily. Yesterday’s choices were pastele stew, grilled? fish, mushroom chicken, and everyday fried chicken.

The Cat choose the mushroom chicken.

I would’ve gone with the pastele stew but didn’t want to food coma the rest of the day. 🙂

Went with the fish instead.

For the price, The Cat made three meals out of her chicken (there were three large thighs on her plate). The Mouse, one meal. I know, fish is more expensive.

The whole package impressed The Cat. We can do this again. Hee hee.

Sky is still gray, but there are spots clearing. Hope last night was the worse of it.

Enjoy. Eat well.
