The neighborhood Denny’s sent over some coupons. Newly renovated re-grand opening. The Cat and The Mouse are not big fans of Denny’s but with coupons … hmm try try.

Walk in, host informs us that they can seat us but the kitchen is backed up 30 to 40 minutes. Wha?! Thought Denny’s was a “short order”, diner type restaurant. The Cat and The Mouse not willing to wait. Afternoon nap calling.

Ended up with Vietnamese around the corner. Lunch special. Choice of two, lemongrass chicken, pork chop, or grilled chicken.

Plate Lunch

Both The Cat and The Mouse chose lemongrass chicken and pork chop. Comes with rice and small green salad. Looks like because it was a lunch special and the price was a little cheaper than the menu, the portions were relative to the price.

The Cat’s tummy was not quite satisfied after. So, dessert was ordered.

Coconut Tapioca Banana

For The Mouse.

Coconut Tapioca Taro

For The Cat.

The Cat tried to show the taro, but, not quite.

Maybe attempt Denny’s again later. Coupons are still valid for a couple more weeks.

Enjoy. Eat well.

A few of The Cat’s eating “adventures”, the misses.

Tempura udon.

Sides

Head-on shrimp, bean sprouts, soy beans.

Tempura on the Side

So it doesn’t get soggy in the dashi broth.

Bowl of Udon

The Cat felt severely overpriced.

On another day …

Pork Belly Stir-Fry Teishoku

Again, overpriced. Too much onions, both in the stir-fry and raw.

Lastly.

The Cat bought a bag of “mountain apples”, not knowing exactly what they are.

Mountain Apples

Not apples. The Mouse doesn’t care for the texture nor the taste. The Cat kinda has to finish the bag herself.

Oh well, I guess you do eat with your eyes first, but sometimes, the eyes deceive. Hee hee.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Gets the sandwich.

Left for work a little early yesterday. Goal was to head to Manoa to get a sandwich. Not fond of driving into Manoa, traffic can be bad, parking could be an issue. But … there’s always hope. 🙂

Summertime traffic tolerable (I guess university is still on summer break, or too early for classes to start). Found parking across the street from the storefront.

Storefront

Arrived just when they were opening. No crowd. 🙂

Menu Wall

Hasn’t changed much, except for the prices, since The Mouse was going to college, over 30 years ago.

One of The Mouse’s Favorites

Avocado, cucumber, and tomato sandwich, comes with lettuce and alfalfa sprouts. Nom!

The Mouse also treated himself to one of their oatmeal cookies.

Oatmeal Cookie

The shape was rounder, a piece accidentally broke off. Hee hee.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Daily Bread

Since lunch “adventures” are temporarily suspended due to closing of the accounting books, The Mouse thought to try a different tactic yesterday. Try to pick up a sandwich or something on the way into work.

Problem was some of the bakeries along the way weren’t open that early (same for the Korean grocery store). Finally, something that was open and not fast food.

Front

Kinda “hole-in-the-wall-ish”. Right next to a Chinese herbalist store. Parking in the back was funny.

Customer Parking

Limited choices, a few mini danish, bread wasn’t ready, some pre-made sandwiches, but, they were open.

The Mouse’s breakfast.

Danish, Cinnamon Roll, Dried Plum

The pastries were okay. I think the bakery bought them frozen (maybe French Gourmet?) and baked on site.

The Mouse also picked up a salami sandwich for lunch.

Salami Sandwich

The sandwich bag came with condiments.

Mustard, Mayo, and Salad Dressing

The mustard and the mayo went into the community bowl in the office refridge. Used a bit of the salad dressing.

The Mouse’s Sandwich

The Mouse doesn’t like sandwiches that are too soggy, just moist.

Overall, the sandwich was not bad, better than fast food, not gourmet, salad dressing was a nice touch. Limited selection kinda prevents The Mouse from visiting frequently. But, once in a while.

Happy Friday!

Enjoy. Eat well.

Nothing much happening food-wise with The Mouse. Campus still closing its accounting books. Kinda chained to the desk right now. 😦

Canned or frozen vegetables and Vegemite toast is The Mouse’s working diet for now.

The Cat has a little more “eats” to show.

Soup & Sandwich

House roasted turkey and Swiss cheese on whole wheat bread, served with cranberry ginger chutney. Split pea soup.

Honolulu Museum of Art Café + Coffee Bar. Funny, The Cat became a member of the museum mostly to get a discount on the food. Hee hee.

And no, The Mouse has not eaten at the museum yet. Hint hint.

Mouse made (read assembled) bento for The Cat.

Bento

Trader Joe’s rice blend, soy beans, corn, Okinawan sweet potato, purple turnip (Prince would be proud), grilled chicken, roast duck, eggplant parmesan. Mostly leftovers from all over. 🙂

Okay, back to the chain gang for The Mouse. Sigh.

Enjoy. Eat well.
