Just kidding. Happy Halloween, if you celebrate. The Mouse has been using coconut sugar in his oatmeal, picked up from the nearby Ross discount store.

Package

According to the package, the sugar is low glycemic and low carb. It being Halloween, The Mouse thought to try it on something more fitting.

Trick or Treat

The Mouse cored and cubed the apple, tossed with coconut sugar and cinnamon.

The Mouse’s Breakfast

You think the evil queen would approve? Hee hee. Or is it cackle cackle? The Mouse didn’t notice before (in the oatmeal), but the coconut sugar has a slight caramel taste. The sugar was okay on the apple, better in the oatmeal.

The Cat’s office building lobby decorated for the weekend.

Boo!

And the decorations at the mall.

Game of Bones?

Stay safe and well.

The Mouse went to pick up dinner at the neighborhood take-out. He was going to order something from the menu but when he got there, the line was long. Kitchen looked a little hectic. The Mouse decided to go with one of the blackboard specials.

Special #2

Mapo tofu and chicken katsu over rice and mac salad. The Mouse ordered all rice, no mac salad, but the counter and kitchen were slammed. No worries, The Mouse cheated for one day. Leftovers for The Cat’s bento.

For The Cat’s dinner, one oxtail leftover, simmered for several hours (The oxtail was slightly under simmered), half a soup spoon of rice, rehydrated bamboo shoot, shitake mushroom, and wood ear fungus. Cucumbers and frozen vegetables just before service.

Almost the kitchen sink or witch’s brew? Hee hee.

Oxtail, Etcetera Soup

Hearty soup for cooling weather.

Stay safe and well.

So, The Cat and The Mouse tried the Japanese/Vietnamese restaurant the other day. While there, another customer ordered oxtail soup. Since The Cat likes oxtail soup, we asked him how it was, he said very good. The Cat wanted to try, so the next day we went back.

Oxtail Soup

The broth is same as pho. Not quite what The Cat was expecting but still good (and the leftover broth jelled).

The Mouse went with appetizers.

Gyoza

Well made, The Mouse would order again. Mmm.

Spring Rolls

Yes, The Mouse ordered again. Hee hee.

Stay safe and well.

Olive Oil

Commercial for Irish butter, The Mouse is curious. The grocery store stocked the brand in sticks and tub with olive oil. The Mouse doesn’t like to deal with sticks so olive oil blend it is.

Also, The Mouse was also interested in Japanese Kewpie mayonnaise. The fat content was just too high for my doctor. Hee hee. The Mouse settled with mayonnaise with olive oil.

Butter and Mayonnaise

The Mouse hasn’t bought mayonnaise and real butter in at least six months, will use sparingly. 🙂

Stay safe and well.

New restaurant in the neighborhood. Japanese/Vietnamese cuisine. At first the menu looked a bit daunting, especially the Japanese selections until you look closer. Three prices, first is the entrée, second is sashimi added, and the third is sashimi and tempura added. In reality, the prices are reasonable.

Spring Rolls

Becomes The Mouse’s (and maybe The Cat’s) new favorite spring rolls.

Eye Round Steak and Tendon Pho

The Cat threw in the vegetables before The Mouse could take a pic. The broth was well cooked, the leftover broth gelled. Thumbs up.

Ahi Belly Ginger

Mmm!

Chocolate Tapioca

The Mouse was happy, pudding was made with coconut milk, The Mouse is not a big fan of coconut milk, but better than dairy. 🙂

The Cat has declared this restaurant is on the go-to list. Yay!

Stay safe and well.
