Udon Eatin’ Weather

Today’s weather is kinda “damp”. Not raining hard, not even drizzling, kinda misty. Not Misty Mountain severe, not Seattle wet, not even San Francisco fog. The Cat calls it “wet cow fur” damp (translated from Shanghainese?). Not enough to bust out the umbrella, but … “damp”. Words fail right now.

Slurping udon (as well as ramen, won ton mein, chicken noodle soup, etc.) kind of weather. Maybe even curry rice, mapo tofu, or … loco moco! 🙂

Supposed to meet up with The Cat in town after lunch (she had a dim sum lunch meeting with one of her clients). I headed to Marukame Udon on Fort Street Mall.

Kake Udon

Kake Udon

The cheapest bowl on the menu (didn’t want anything fancy). Traditional broth with a light fish and seaweed taste, with extra scoop of green onions and tempura bits (tenkasu?).

Iced Green Tea

Iced Green Tea

Even on a “wet cow fur” day, iced green tea works. Now if the weather was any wetter, it might be another story. Recently, not used to so much carbs, have to go light for dinner. Celery sticks dabbed with peanut butter.

Alas, our quest to update our iPhone 3Gs’s went unfulfilled today. Three places did not have any iPhone 6’s or 6 Pluses. You and I have to put up with slightly (or more than slightly)  fuzzy pictures for a while more. Sigh.

Oh, one last bit.

One Day Only

One Day Only

More for The Cat than anyone else. Tempura eggs, one of The Cat’s favorite side items at a udon shop. Unfortunately, she won’t be in town on that day. The search continues.

Almost forgot, have a safe and treat filled Halloween tomorrow.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Back at LBS (Local Boy Sushi) again. This time to try their kalua pig. Went for the combo bowl (try saying that three times fast).

Combo Bowl

Combo Bowl

Smoked pork (today’s special), ahi pokĂ©, and kalua pork on steamed brown rice. The smoked pork, amazing, a close relative to the beloved char siu. The kalua pork, not bad, slightly overdone. The pokĂ©, my least favorite. They added sea beans to the mix and the flavor overpowered the pokĂ©, sigh. Maybe next time I’ll get a whole bowl of just smoked pork. They should call themselves Local Boy Smoked Meats. 🙂

On a side note, maybe we’ll be upgrading our iPhone 3Gs’s tomorrow. Cross your fingers.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Murphy’s Law Day

One of those days. Won’t go into details.

Luckily someone brought to the office stuff from Trader Joe’s.

Treats from Trader Joe's

Treats from Trader Joe’s

Milk chocolate caramel mac-nut thingies and dark chocolate covered roasted edamame.

The silver lining. Pick-up for the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being (whatever  ails ya). 🙂

Oh well, to quote Scarlett (O’Hara) “tomorrow is another day”.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Watching TV while cooking sometimes could  be dangerous, sometimes could be inspirational (not in the TV evangelist kind of way).

Don’t even know what I was watching (channel surfing). Host was trying to put a twist on hamburger condiments. SautĂ©ed onions mixed with yellow mustard. I know, it’s been done on a burger before, but as separate ingredients (he also combined kimchi with ketchup, that’s potentially another post :).

Since I was planning to sauté onions tonight anyway.

Sautéed Onions

Used spicy brown mustard instead of yellow, not a regular item in our refrig.

Canned Salmon, Sautéed Onions in Spicy Brown Mustard and Dried Cranberries

The onions were a tad too “mustardy”, balanced it by throwing dried cranberries on top. Onions went well with the canned salmon. Have to keep the onions/mustard combo in mind.

This was a Mouse meal. The Cat not too fond of canned meats and onions are on her no fly list. She had fish head soup. 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.
