As in a Stephen King, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm St., you get the idea.
Let me explain. One of my food mentors P&B’s mother/mother-in-law (my grand-aunt), used to keep all kinds of “different” foods and ingredients.
One day, she had me look for something in the freezer. Most things were wrapped in newspaper, then in plastic bags, requiring me to feel and sometimes open the wrapping. One such wrapping contained a boned out pig’s head, kinda reminded me of Hannibal Lechter (before I even heard of Hannibal Lechter). That picture was etched in my mind for a while (still kinda is in a way). Ugh!
So on to the current day. The Cat brings home salmon heads and tails from The Cat’s mother (where she gets them from, I don’t ask).
The Cat’s been making fish head soup, thought I’d try something different. A sprinkle of salt, a splash of Shao Xing wine, wrapped ’em in foil and threw the packet in the toaster oven for about an hour.
Sorry, no “after” pic, looked kinda gross. The Cat liked the change of pace. The Mouse? Not a fish head enthusiast. but, better than dealing with the soup.
Will be doing this the next time. Still got several heads and tails left. So, come to our house? Don’t open the freezer door. Unless you like. Hee hee.
Enjoy? Eat well (at least)

Today was a happy day. Bacon was involved, twice. 🙂
Just found out today that because I “work” at the church on Sunday, I could get breakfast from the kitchen for free. How come no one told me this. Sigh! They’ve been happily taking my “donations”. Oh well, at least it was for a “holy” cause. Don’t think I will be using that perk every Sunday. Just on the Sundays the kitchen serves bacon. Hee hee
Like today. The menu was supposed to be chocolate waffles (the frozen variety), fruit, and of course, bacon. I was going to request just bacon and fruit (not that keen on frozen chocolate waffles), but they substituted a half of a everything bagel, much better.
Prior to going to church, I picked this up for my breakfast/lunch.
I mentioned this sandwich before. Sounds like a club house sandwich, but the bacon is mixed into the mayonnaise (more bacon-y, I feel). One of my favorite convenience store sandwiches.
Because of the church breakfast, took the sandwich home for dinner.
Bacon, a food group in itself. 🙂
The Mouse was happy today. Hee hee
Enjoy. Eat well

Had to go to church the other day, not my regularly scheduled day, changing computer program … again.
Heard about this place (it was on the way). Rave reviews on Yelp. Supposed to have one of the best bánh mì in town.
Problem is sometimes they’re open, sometimes not. Called several times after the posted opening time … no answer. Finally, just before I left to church, tried one more time. Success!
Got there and no longer a restaurant, converted the seating area to a little grocery store.
Take out still available. Ordered their “special” bánh mì, char siu and pork belly.
Actually really good. Possibly one of the best on the island. I think the meat was prepared in-house, definitely not pre-made, frozen. Nice amount of veggies. Socks off.
Ate it outside (there were some seats with a small table). No amount of imagination could put me at a cafe in Paris or Vietnam, Kapahulu is Kapahulu. 🙂
Definitely would go back. Call first.
Enjoy. Eat well.

The Cat’s been working late lately. Once, waited for a ride home (running errands). Going home would mean another 30 to 45 minutes to cook. Take out from Asian Mix. Surprisingly, two of The Cat’s favorites still available at the late hour.
The Mouse had won ton min. One of his favorites.
With real char siu, not ramen style chasiu. 🙂
The Cat lucked out that night.
Enjoy. Eat well
