Mango Mango

The Mouse has not browsed the Ala Moana mall in years. Yesterday, The Cat wanted something from one of the stores. Good excuse to do a little walking exercise. Hee hee.

New-ish Taiwanese? snack shop, specializing in fresh mango drinks and snacks.

Counter

On the advice of a regular customer, The Cat ordered mango smoothie, only mango, no other ingredients.

Mango Smoothie

Not extra sweet, fruity.

The Mouse is not a big mango person, ordered winter melon tea.

Winter Melon Tea

Fancy, The Mouse felt he had to stick out his pinky. Hee hee. Tea not bad, light and refreshing.

Oh, and to prove that the kitchen uses fresh mangoes…

Fresh Mangoes

Overall, a nice diversion. 🙂

Be safe and well.

“Omiyage”

The haul from “big island”.

Cookies

Chocolate chip with Japanese rice crackers, salty sweet. Nom!

White Tea Leaves

Grown on-premise. Super rare and expensive. But the people we bought for, worth it.

Coffee

Bags. Luckily The Mouse’s carry-on expanded a little.

Oh! And the owners of the coffee farm gifted The Mouse!

Burlap Bag

So happy! Dunno what to do with it yet. But … 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.

Lunch wagon that stops in front of the warehouse daily.

Lunch Wagon

Even the signage says lunch wagon (not a food truck!). Yesss!

A few (maybe one) selections at $8.00 or $9.00, mostly $6.00.

Since it was Friday, and The Mouse’s first time, he “splurged”.

Combo Plate

Kalua pork and cabbage, roast pork, salad option. All for (drum roll) $7.00! A steal! To top it off, food is pretty tasty, not gourmet, but certainly above average (especially at the price point). Definitely will be returning.

Tea Bags

Tonight’s dinner, something small for the general manager. He is not into sweets, but The Cat knows he drinks tea.

Something to Rest His Tea Bags On

One kinda modern Raku-ish, one more traditional. The Mouse couldn’t decide so bought two. The Cat picked the black one, the other one goes into our dish cabinet.

Which one would you choose?

Sunset pictures and maybe fire tonight. hee hee.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Sorta.

Started with this.

Box

We have sooooo much tea at home, time to start thinning the inventory. The Cat’s connections think we drink tea in SPAM land like they drink tea at home.

Tea Leaves

With tea, the normal breakfast sandwich, or toast for that matter, wouldn’t quite fit. So …

SPAM Onigiri and Japanese Rolled Omelet

The portable version of SPAM and eggs. Hee hee.

Then, boss #2 (think Star Trek: The Next Generation) brings in dim sum.

Dim Sum

Steamed dumplings, pork hash, fried seaweed and shrimp. Perfect with tea. Hee hee #2.

Another “portable version”. Hee hee #2.

The Mouse ate the dim sum plate for lunch, thank goodness for office microwaves. 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.

Played Hooky

Didn’t go to work yesterday, played hooky, dropped off a box of chocolates for the preschool staff and left. Funny, most people go to church for inspiration, I stay away. Maybe that’s why I’m not that into organized religion, created by people with all their quirks (just my opinion). I have no (less) issues with the preschool side.

On to the fun stuff.

New Chinese bakery across from the mall.

J.J. Bakery

J.J. Bakery

Breakfast.

Pork Fu? Puff Pastry

Pork Fu? Puff Pastry

Pork fu (I forgot what the bakery calls it, aka pork dust, my nickname for it). Think baked manapua with a pot pie top. I know, sounds weird but it worked. Plus, the filling was very generous. Paw up.

Iced Jasmine Tea

Iced Jasmine Tea

Menu didn’t indicate it was iced nor sweetened. Couldn’t get it hot, but was able to change it to non-sugared. Guess their still trying to work out some “bugs”.

Egg Custard Tart

Egg Custard Tart

Fresh and warm. Not bad, paw up. Definitely will order again.

Even took home a little something something to nom later.

Peanut Danish

Peanut Danish

Filled with almonds and peanut spread (Chinese style). Another paw up selection.

All in all, a good experience. Got away from the “not too happy” church environment, had a little food staycation, did a little Christmas shopping. Spent the rest of the day sending out resumes (and eating the peanut danish).

Enjoy. Eat well.
