“Volcano” Rice

Leftover rice from lunch yesterday. Warehouse semi-sponsored weekly plate lunch. The Mouse ordered Korean spicy pork (and forgot to take a picture, sigh). The sauce permeated the rice.

At first, The Mouse was going to use the rice for The Cat’s jook, but thought might be too spicy for The Cat. So, became The Mouse’s dinner.

Steamed the rice, steamed an egg, a little shoyu.

“Vocano” Rice

The rice was HOT! but addictive. Taste also had a touch of sweetness. The Mouse just hopes there is no flaming “exhaust” later. Hee hee.

Stay safe and well.

Had to be downtown on Saturday.

Weekends, downtown is pretty much a ghost town. Headed to Chinatown for a bite, Hunan Cuisine.

Twice Cooked Pork Belly with Bell Peppers and Onions

Twice Cooked Pork Belly with Bell Peppers and Onions (Lunch Plate Special)

Bowl of soup included. All for under $7.00! What a deal!

Since it’s a Hunan restaurant, chili flakes and dried chili was part of the seasoning. Normally my stomach processes bell peppers and onions with a lot of … uhmm … flatu__ (you can fill in the blanks), but with the added chili? It was full scale chemical warfare grade output. 🙂 Sorry, probably TMI, just thought I’d share. Hee hee. Good thing The Cat was at work.

Definitely a return and re-order. Damn the consequences. Heh heh.

After downtown, headed to the mall to do an errand for The Cat. Picked up some take-out from Foodland Farms and St. Germain Bakery, and made a little veggie side at home.

Couscous, Quiche, and Veggies

Couscous, Quiche, and Veggies

Couscous salad from Foodland Farms (with roast pork and kamaboko!), spinach and onion quiche from St. Germain Bakery (more onions!), and frozen okra with smoked pork (warmed). Mmmm! Comfort food.

Heading to the farmers market.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Sunday lunch.

Neither The Mouse nor The Cat picked the place, The Cat’s female parental unit (FPU) did. Funny as how neither The Cat nor her FPU can handle any kind of heat.

The menu.

The Menu

The Menu

Heh heh, just kidding. Restaurant does provide regular menus, in English, for those who are linguistically challenged. Nice decoration though. 🙂

Menu has some interesting dishes.

It was a toss-up between the intestine and snout. Soft or crunchy. The Mouse went with the intestines.

Braised Intestines

Braised Intestines

Kinda lacking flavor, good thing there was vinegar and shoyu on the table. Maybe try the snout next time.

Won Ton in Spicy Sauce

Won Ton in Spicy Sauce

Not bad, I think we’re used to Kin Wah’s one more.

Guilin Rice Noodle Soup

Guilin Rice Noodle Soup

Spicy hot, even though the server said it was mild. Relativity.

Braised Pork Rice Bowl

Braised Pork Rice Bowl

Didn’t get to try this one. FPU took it for herself (took home the leftovers too). Sigh.

Pork Belly with Rice Powder

Pork Belly with Rice Powder

The Cat said one of her favorite small-kid time dishes. First day not much taste. Tonight (as leftover), much better, flavor must have soaked in.

Spicy Eggplant

Spicy Eggplant

Highpoint of the meal. Very flavorful. An update, the second dish we brought home. Tonight, more spicy. Needs rice.

Over all, a few hits, a few misses. Must be interesting enough for The Cat to think about going back again to try different things. Chef is from Jiang Xi, maybe next time we try the dishes where he’s from.

Hope you had a good weekend and female parental unit day (if you qualify). 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.

It’s The Cat’s bro’s b-day.

Luckily I had pasta for lunch.

Mentaiko Mayo Pasta

Mentaiko Mayo Pasta

Pasta tossed with spicy cod fish roe and mayonnaise, topped with cucumbers and nori. From one of my favorite Saturday lunch stops, Chez Kenzo.

The dish was good, I do tend to prefer my pasta on the saucier side though.

The Cat’s dinner.

Eggplant Parmesan w/ marinara, mozzarella & spaghetti

Eggplant Parmesan w/ marinara, mozzarella & spaghetti

From Zia’s Caffe – Kaneohe (up the street). Again, where’s the sauce?

Actually, The Cat was after this.

Whiskey Caramel Gelato

Whiskey Caramel Gelato

The daily gelato was supposed to be Bailey’s but they ran out. Lucky Cat.

Happy B-Day Bro-in-Law, hope you had cake.

Enjoy. Eat well.
