Still on a self-inflicted crazy work schedule (until at least the middle of May).

Did the between office commute a little early the other day. Still could order breakfast from Plaza Clubhouse.

Loco Moco on Brown Rice

All for less than ten  dollars (still have the change in my pocket).

Ate the loco moco for late breakfast (while it was still warm), the french toast for late lunch (a quick toss in the toaster oven). 🙂

Yesterday, while heading home, saw this.

The Siren Call

The Siren Call

Just had to.

Shared the free one with the bus driver going home (I think she was happily surprised).

Because three SPAM musubi would be too many for The Mouse.

The Mouse's Dinner

The Mouse’s Dinner

SPAM musubi, an apple, and celery sticks. A nice TV dinner. Hee hee.

Happy Friday!

Enjoy. Eat well.

From Jamba Juice, another food stop near the bus stop. They’re supposed to be lower cal than the one’s at Starbuck’s. Sorta kinda taste lower cal. Hee hee (that’s my story and I’m sticking with it).

It’s all good. 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.

SPAM Musubi-ish

Picked this up from the other day.

SPAM Spread

SPAM Spread

(Sorry, out of focus, still using a iPhone 3G 😦 )

My father used to eat a lot of Underwood Deviled Ham, looked kinda similar. Plus a have a soft spot for SPAM. 🙂

Dad used to spread the deviled ham on soda crackers or Wonder bread toast. I had other ideas.

Some leftover mixed grains and Korean style toasted and seasoned seaweed.

SPAM Musubi deconstructed, kinda.

Tah Dah!

Tah Dah!

I know, not “official” SPAM musubi ingredients, I twist on them. Taste better than it looks. Trust me.

For balance, also prepared a tomato salad.

Tomato, green onions, capers (with a little brine), and apple cider vinegar. Simple.

The rest of the can went on an open-faced sandwich (white bread of course!).

SPAM Bruschetta?

SPAM Bruschetta?

Just so you know, I did not eat the whole can myself. Sautéed The Cat’s vegetables with some spread.

Celery and Tomato Saute with SPAM Spread

Think Vietnamese fish sauce, Chinese fermented shrimp paste, XO sauce, you get the idea. The Cat liked.

SPAM … endless possibilities. Hee hee!

Enjoy. Eat well.

SPAM vs Pork Hash

Bought this from 7-eleven the other day.

Pork Hash Musubi

Pork Hash Musubi

My first thought was “what’s the difference from SPAM musubi?”, both are made from pork.

Pork Hash Musubi

Pork Hash Musubi

Kinda look similar too. However, each has a distinct flavor. SPAM musubi has a “hammy” cured taste. The pork hash musubi has more of a “Chinese” taste (soy sauce, white pepper, maybe even a bit of five spice). Equally good.

Also found out why I don’t mind the musubi from 7-eleven.

SPAM Katsu Musubi

My regular Sunday musubi place has fallen slightly out of favor with me. They started to skimp on the rice.

SPAM Musubi

SPAM Musubi

I never ever thought I’d be saying this but the SPAM to rice ratio was out of balance … too much SPAM (OMG!). Not that too much SPAM is a bad thing just that after eating one of  these, I’m still looking around for something to eat (and two is too much).

Just on a whim, while waiting for my bus transfer, checked the 7-Eleven close by. Bought a SPAM katsu musubi.

The SPAM slice is breaded and fried with a teriyaki sauce. Notice how the rice supports the SPAM slice, no sagging. 🙂 The rice is packed just right, not to dense, and packed enough to hold together. My new musubi source. Not sure If I will be buying the katsu version on a regular basis (too decadent), but definitely will  be picking up the other varieties in the coming Sundays.

Who would have thought, more than decent SPAM musubi from a convenience store.

Enjoy. Eat well.
