Posts Tagged ‘sautéed onions’

Watching TV while cooking sometimes could  be dangerous, sometimes could be inspirational (not in the TV evangelist kind of way).

Don’t even know what I was watching (channel surfing). Host was trying to put a twist on hamburger condiments. Sautéed onions mixed with yellow mustard. I know, it’s been done on a burger before, but as separate ingredients (he also combined kimchi with ketchup, that’s potentially another post :).

Since I was planning to sauté onions tonight anyway.

Sautéed Onions

Sautéed Onions

Used spicy brown mustard instead of yellow, not a regular item in our refrig.

Canned Salmon, Sautéed Onions in Spicy Brown Mustard and Dried Cranberries

Canned Salmon, Sautéed Onions in Spicy Brown Mustard and Dried Cranberries

The onions were a tad too “mustardy”, balanced it by throwing dried cranberries on top. Onions went well with the canned salmon. Have to keep the onions/mustard combo in mind.

This was a Mouse meal. The Cat not too fond of canned meats and onions are on her no fly list. She had fish head soup. 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.

A continuation from yesterday’s post.

Portuguese style sausage, I usually eat them two ways, in Portuguese bean soup, or fried, for breakfast.

This time, breakfast it is.

Texture

Texture

The texture is chunky, chunks of meat, fat, and spices, clearly seen. This is not some overly processed homogenized sausage.

Pan-Fried

Pan-Fried

Sliced up and pan fried, just enough to warm and slightly brown. I’ll say it again, this sausage has texture (read chewy), in a good way. Nicely spiced too, not dragon breath hot (especially for breakfast).

Of course, proper breakfast with sausage, have to have egg(s).

Fried Egg

Fried Egg

To keep it “healthy”, a bowl of brown rice, quinoa, and chia seeds (if I start growing green hair, watch out!). 🙂

Sautéed Onions, Okra, and Sun-Dried Tomatoes

Sautéed Onions, Okra, and Sun-Dried Tomatoes

Add a dish of sautéed onions with okra and sun-dried tomatoes, and I’m all set. Yes, I soaked the onion before slicing to de-weaponize it and me.

Coincidentally, the cousins introduced me to the wonders okra (fried, southern style) and I haven’t looked back since.

So, a double thanks to P & B. 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.
