Salty Sweet

The Mouse has not done a braise in a while. Too humid for soup. Nice package of pork ribs (cut for sweet sour) at the store.

Pork Ribs

After the initial parboil wash, braise for about an hour in water and apple cider vinegar. Added miso, sake, fresh ginger, and raw honey and braised for another 1/2 hour.

Miso, Sake, and Honey Braised Pork Ribs

The ribs came out tasty and tender, the sauce over rice or mashed potatoes, awesome.

Flavor kinda “teriyaki-ish”, more earthy, funky (fermented in a good way).

Stay safe and well.

Pork Rib Tips

The warehouse is trying to move inventory. Special for employees.

Frozen

Much more than just one dish for The Cat and The Mouse. The Mouse is contemplating the possibilities. Soup with vegetables, possibly turnip, maybe cabbage, shoyu or miso braised, maybe, just maybe, if The Mouse is feeling super adventurous, li hing mui braised.

Whatchathink?

Stay safe and well.

The Mouse Food

Leftover pork rib (from The Cat’s Sunday dinner), ahi poke, and a roast beef sandwich (reduced price) enhanced with shiso leaves from the bucket.

Not pretty but tasty and filling.

Enjoy. Eat well.

As mentioned in previous posts, The Cat’s cousin is here to gain some western experience and we’re happy to expose her to some American culture, hence the “corruption”. This past Sunday, we had lunch at Ruby Tuesday (forgot to take a picture of the sign). Up to now, she hasn’t experienced “ribs”. Q ordered the full rack of their baby back ribs, half with the classic sauce and half with the mango kiawe sauce.

Baby Back Ribs

Although the ribs are good, most times, its the salad bar that The Cat and I go for. The Cat ordered mini crab cake sliders with salad bar.

The Cat's Salad

I ordered the Ruby’s mini sliders with salad bar.

The Mouse's Salad

What’s the main difference between The Cat’s salad and mine? Mine has BACON! 🙂

The restaurant added cupcakes on their dessert menu so of course we had to try them (in light of The Cat’s cousin’s new found interest in them).

Cupcakes!

Two varieties, carrot and red velvet.

It appears that our corruption of The Cat’s cousin is proceeding smoothly, up next, raw fish (just kidding heh heh heh).

Enjoy.
