The Mouse’s dinner. Local Boy Sushi. Primarily catering with a small take-out window.

Big Bruddah Bowl

Not that big, shallow bowl, not quite enough rice. Ahi poke (decent), spicy tuna (decent), kalua pork (good), smoked pork (winner), unagi (weakest link), shrimp tempura (passable).

And, no stop at Local Boy Sushi without Mr. Lee’s hamburger (deluxe).

Mr. Lee’s Hamburger Deluxe

Super old school. 😉

Enjoy. Eat well.

Saw this place on former co-worker’s Facebook:

Sign

For geezers like The Mouse and The Cat, used to be the old Yum Yum Tree location.

Lunches are “not sit down service”. Order at the counter, pick-up at the kitchen window, find your own table, take-out boxes and plastic utensils. Dinner (I’m told) is sit down service.

The Cat ordered off of the daily special menu.

“Game Day” Special

First time (except for tempura) The Cat orders a plate with deep fried food (she saw soft shell crab). 🙂

Shrimp, fish, calamari?, along with the soft shell crab (two!), rice and salad. The Cat liked.

The Mouse ordered:

Portobello Mushroom and Vegetable “Burger”

On taro bun with fries. Well made.

Restaurant also has a poke counter.

Toppings

Cute ya?

Mussel Poke with Sesame Seed Topping

Jus’ to try. Not bad. 🙂

The Cat approved a revisit in the future, maybe for dinner? Hee hee.

Enjoy. Eat well.

No Hawaiian plate this week.

Coworker got her hands on a Goteborg sausage from Kauai, and shared some with the office. For some reason which The Mouse does not know yet. A Kauai regional food. I don’t think any other island favors Goteborg sausage as much as Kauai. More research is needed.

Goteborg Sausage

Of course The Mouse had to try. For breakfast. Hee hee.

Sausage went well with the planned breakfast.

Vegemite Toast and Dried Plums

With Earl Grey tea. Director brought back a tea bag variety from her trip to Disneyland. Tea. Not Mickey hats. Sigh.

Finally got to try the “Student Special #1” from St. Louis Drive Inn down the hill from campus. Highly recommended by a coworker from the old job.

Student Special #1

Two burgers, French fries, drink. Six bucks.

Chomp View

Burger, a little sauce, bun. No other accoutrements. Super old school. On the plus side, burger wasn’t drowned in sauce. On the minus side, no lettuce/tomato (at least lettuce). Good to try though.

Another coworker brought in something she didn’t want for the two known food enthusiasts in the office.

Dragonfruit!

Coworker is not a vegetable/fruit eater plus not adventurous in the eating arena. The Mouse offered to cut a piece for her. Nope. That’s okay, The Cat and The Mouse benefit. 🙂

Nom!

Since The Mouse didn’t have lau lau and or kalua pork on Friday, picked up a little “cat food” on the way home. 🙂

Hamachi Poke

And a little “mouse treat” too.

Smoked Salmon Poke

The hamachi poke for dinner, the smoked salmon poke to snack on.

The Cat had lunch at Romano’s Macaroni Grill.

Eggplant Parmesan

The Cat brought home a little mousie bag, went into the freezer, probably will end up as part of one of The Cat’s bento next week.

Have a good weekend.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Cubicle neighbor mentioned yesterday she might go to Tamura’s Fine Wine and Liquors (for poke bowl) today and if I wanted to tag-along. Still had the leftover kau yuk to deal with.

Light bulb.

Breakfast.

Brown Rice, Kau Yuk, Japanese Salted Cabbage, and Dried Plums

Okay, cleared the way for poke bowl for lunch. Hee hee.

Tried combo bowl for lunch.

Masago Ahi Poke and Wasabi Crawfish on Brown Rice

The ahi poke was okay (uneventful), should’ve stuck with the all crawfish like the first time. Oh well, try try.

Dinner was back at Bob’s Bar-B-Que for another sandwich.

Grilled Ahi Sandwich

Trust me, the sandwich was a lot better than the picture. Fish not overcooked, perfect tarter sauce, bun not soggy/mushy this time. Nom!

There’s a baked bean/Polish sausage plate I really want to try. Heading back there soon!

Enjoy. Eat well.

“Poke” Another Way

Over the weekend, tried something “new-ish” at the mall.

Storefront

Poke, made-to-order. Uhm okay, try try.

Pick a base, a protein, a sauce, and various accouterments to your taste.

I went with a small salad, salmon, wasabi, tobiko roe, furikake, and avocado.

The Mouse’s “Box”

On the plus side, everything is “fresh”. On the down side, everything is “fresh”. The flavors did not get a chance to combine and meld.

Sorry, I think I prefer the fresh made daily, pre-mixed poke style, but to each their own. Try try.

Enjoy. Eat well.
