Tendon Pho

The Cat was in the mood for pho. Neighborhood Vietnamese noodle house had beef and tendon pho on the menu. The Mouse asked if they could do only tendon. They could.

The Cat’s Pho ingredients

Soup and garnish separate. Noodles didn’t get soggy, garnish didn’t wilt. Good job.

The Mouse not so much a pho fan. Opted for the vermicelli with spring roll and grilled chicken.

The Mouse’s Mess

Oh, sneak peek of near future post.

Box

Stay safe and well.

At least that’s what The Cat called yesterday.

Too tired to “celebrate”.

The Mouse just warmed up The Cat’s leftover pho and added the beansprouts and some Napa cabbage. Tricky, the rice noodles apparently can overcook very easily, posing a problem when leftover.

Leftover Pho

Borderline jook. Hee hee.

The Mouse made a stir-fry for himself. Napa cabbage and Japanese fishcake.

Colorful, No?

Today is The Cat’s declared hibernation day. The Mouse has to go to work. Sigh.

Sunday Pho

This past Sunday, instead of the semi-regular Ruby Tuesday, soup noodles.

The Cat’s stomach needed something warm and soupy, too many late nights at the office, weird eating.

The Mouse’s Won Ton Egg Noodle Soup

Instead of the standard rice noodles.

Accoutrements

Dunno, maybe the Thai basil helped to settle The Cat’s stomach.

The Cat liked. Only drawback, no dessert (read mudpie). Sigh.

That’s okay, with The Cat’s stomach not being at optimal functioning status anyway …

Enjoy. Eat well.

B-day for one of Chef P’s former servers, K, hosted by his partner B. Also found out one of K’s current co-workers, N, also her b-day last night.

The place.

Kinda in an out of the way strip mall. Decent parking. Four and a half stars on Yelp.

First time for The Cat and The Mouse. Other guests seem to be “regulars”. We defer to their favorites.

Starters.

The pho soup was highly recommended. Being that The Cat has a less than enthusiastic preference to beef in general but still wanted to try the soup (beef based), she went with the not so red meat selection. Was that confusing?

Tendon and Tripe Pho

The Mouse, on another recommendation by the “regulars” ordered …

Oxtail Soup

Oxtail Soup

Vietnamese style, very good, Meat almost falling off the bone. Different from the olde skool local kine with lots of peanuts, star anise, and mustard cabbage, but still tasty.

On the menu, the soup comes with rice, but the regulars suggested noodles, thought the noodles would be in the soup, but it was served separately.

Mmm! One full and contented mouse (cat too).

Just when we thought the foodfest was ending, out comes dessert.

Tapioca with Taro

Tapioca with Taro

Not bad, not too sweet, a bit heavy in the tummy tho’.

And since there were four people with January birthdays …

Cake!

Cake!

Not four layers, but close enough. 🙂

So, H-B to K, N, P, and ???!

Oh, and an update on the pork belly.

Miso/Sake Braised Pork Belly

Miso/Sake Braised Pork Belly

Refrigerated overnight to let the flavors soak in. It’s gonna be good. except package The Cat picked was a little on the lean side. Oh well, we will have to wait and see.

I did make up two snack sized bento boxes for the smoked meat vendors today. Last week they discounted our purchase. Just a little show of appreciation. Ancient grains, sesame oil turnip, and the pork belly (forgot to take a picture of the bento).

Heading out to a wine bar for B-day dinner #2, it’s Chef P’s turn.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Not Fried. 🙂

Started off with a package of rolls? from the newly re-opened Korean grocery store (I think they changed owners).

Not much change from the previous incarnation (both inside and out).

The Rolls

The Rolls

As the shopkeeper tried to explain to me, the rolls are made out of regular wheat flour and mochi rice flour. These are the bomb! Socks off. Crunchy on the outside, super chewy on the inside. Slightly sweet salty, with the sesame seed “essence” going on. Going back for more.

Lunch was kinda “consolation prize”. Took a chance and headed up to Breadbox Hawaii to see if there were any natto puff pastry left. Sold out. 😦

Second choice, mandoo plate. I know, it’s a stretch.

This take-out included a small amount of banchan (a good thing), some places don’t included their banchan with take-out. Understandable but still welcomed if included.

And The Cat got a bunch of gardenias out of the trek.

Dinner was kinda cheap eats. Wanted to try this place for a while (especially on a Saturday). Better than average rating (4+). But Saturday are BOGO!

Soup was tasty but light (a good thing), wasn’t too thirsty afterwards (like some other places). Decent. 🙂

Heading off to the farmers market.

Enjoy. Eat well.
