Not really The Beatles inspired. More digging through the kitchen.

Ginger, raw peanuts, canned cannellini beans, oatmeal, peanut powder, an egg, and salt to taste.

Throw everything together and pray for the best. 🙂

The Cat’s Soup/Stew

A sprinkle of paprika and chives for color. The Cat seemed to like.

The Mouse found a “remnant plate” at the supermarket.

Pastele “Mini Bento”

Scoop of rice, scoop of mashed potato with gravy, one pastele, $3.99. Good deal as the grocery deli was selling one pastele as a side for $3.99. Rare treat for The Mouse. 🙂

Be safe and well.

Canned Peanuts

No, not the “dry roasted” variety, although The Mouse won’t turn them down, not his favorite. If he has a choice, The Mouse chooses boiled peanuts.

Been staring at this can of boiled peanuts anytime I make a Walmart run.

The Mouse know how to cook boiled peanuts (especially with Chinese Five Spice, Yum!) but it’s time consuming.

Yesterday, finally gave in and bought a tin.

Dunno if factory cooks then cans or cooks in can but the peanuts are hard to access (shells are hard to open and peanuts don’t release easily. Taste is okay, salty. Overall impression = meh. But cheap and cuts out the work.

The Mouse thinks next time he craves boiled peanuts, he’ll make his own.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Not chicken feet nor pig feet soup this week. The Mouse picked up a package of oxtail. A little on the pricey side, small package, “affordable”.

Enough for two bowls and leftover.

Just on the side, the label.

Beef, Ox, is that like “Master Shifu”, JK. Hee hee.

Anyways, besides the usual suspects (ginger, whiskey, apple cider vinegar), The Mouse’s version of oxtail soup has to have certain other ingredients.

Star Anise

After overnight soft simmering, and a visit to the farmers market, the soup.

Oxtail Soup with Mustard Greens and Chinese Parsley

Fall off the bone tender.

The Cat’s bowl had the added noodles.

The Cat’s Bowl

The Cat slurped.

Braised Pork

You’ve seen it done here, at least a couple of times. One of our favorite ways.

This time, a little pork belly, a little pork loin (leaner), miso paste, and some little “extras”.

And …

Wanted an Asian beer (Sapporo, Qingdao, Kirin, something), but none at the market.

Hauled out “the Martha” …

"Everyone" in the Pot!

“Everyone” in the Pot!

Low, slow, mellow. 🙂

Beer Braised Miso Pork with Peanuts
