The Cat picked up dinner. She came home at a somewhat decent time (an eye of the storm tax season moment). Comfort food.

From Sakura Terrace. Mmm. With potato salad and green salad. Nom!

Stay safe and well.

First, yesterday there was a power outage, no way to post. 😦

Ok, onward.

Last Sunday’s lunch, original plan was to go to the art museum, The Cat’s choice. Their website was a little confusing. The Cat and The Mouse took a chance and drove to town. Unfortunately the museum and attached cafe was closed.

Plan B. Sakura Terrace. From previous post, timing, everything.

The Mouse got his omurice.

Omurice Lunch

Miso soup and takuan. Mmm.

The Cat ordered maguro steak bento.

Maguro Steak Bento

The maguro (tuna) was lightly seared (still sashimi inside) and covered with a grated radish ponzu combination. The Cat liked. For the price, it was a lot of food. Quality was excellent. The Cat wants to return.

A little dessert.

Coconut Sorbet

Light and fresh.

Quality ingredients, cooked with respect. Awesome job.

The exterior of the restaurant is surrounded by bamboo and greens, almost garden-like. Which, coincidentally is the environment of the museum cafe. So kinda a good plan b. Hee hee.

Stay safe and well.

Found a new place for Sunday breakfast/brunch. 🙂

Name is a mashup of the owner’s two daughters, Kamalani and Kalei. Weekends, the daughters run the kitchen.

The Cat’s Order

French toast, bread from Punalu‘u Bake Shop. Generous portion. They let the bread soak in the batter to achieve a custard-y texture. The Cat liked.

Fried Rice Omelet

Owner misheard The Mouse and added an extra scoop of fried rice. Toast included. Everything well prepared. 🙂

In true “omurice” tradition. Hee hee.

Definitely will return, prices are super reasonable too.

Enjoy. Eat well.

More Chicken and Egg

But first, The Cat wanted The Mouse to post a picture of her breakfast yesterday.

The Cat's Breakfast

The Cat’s Breakfast

Kiwi, banana, plum, taro bread.

On to the main event.

The Mouse’s lunch.

Special of the day at Kokoro Tei.

One of my favorite dishes, right up there with oyako don. Small-kid time, whenever we went out to eat at a Japanese restaurant, I would order oyako don. Simple to eat, not complicated, plus it was usually one of the cheaper dishes on the menu.

Enter omurice, different but similar. For small-kid, tastes were more complex, yet not so out there that it wasn’t manageable. Plus, the ingredients were all familiar, rice, ketchup, egg, chicken. Just mixed together in a different way. Winner!

So, Kokoro Tei only offers omurice once or twice a month. Mouth was watering for almost a month. 🙂

Omurice Plate Lunch

Omurice Plate Lunch

This one was more upscale than what I’m used to (think Tampopo). Ketchup fried rice with chicken, egg, demi glace sauce, salad, rolled omelet, pasta salad, and pickled turnip. Big yum!
