Several weeks ago, thought we found a new breakfast spot in the neighborhood, Kamalei Kitchen. Returned a couple of weeks later, completely closed shop. No explanation. Sigh.

Several weeks pass and another sign goes up, Kalawe Cafe now open. Turns out, the two owners are related. First owner felt overwhelmed. First-time restaurateurs.

Decided to check it out this past weekend. Menus are very similar.

The Cat tried an omelet.

Spinach, Mushroom, Tomato Omelet with Toast

Two eggs instead of three. No leftovers.

The Mouse tried their riff on the loco moco.

Kapoho Moco

Corned beef hash patties instead of hamburger patties.

House Made Corned Beef Hash Patty

The Mouse liked. ๐Ÿ™‚

Enjoy. Eat well.

Found a new place for Sunday breakfast/brunch. ๐Ÿ™‚

Front

Name is a mashup of the owner’s two daughters, Kamalani and Kalei. Weekends, the daughters run the kitchen.

The Cat’s Order

French toast, bread from Punaluโ€˜u Bake Shop. Generous portion. They let the bread soak in the batter to achieve a custard-yย texture. The Cat liked.

Fried Rice Omelet

Owner misheard The Mouse and added an extra scoop of fried rice. Toast included. Everything well prepared. ๐Ÿ™‚

Catsup

In true “omurice” tradition. Hee hee.

Definitely will return, prices are super reasonable too.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Brunch. Cafe Zia, up the street.

The Cat’s order.

Vegetarian Omelet

Feta, avocado, tomato & spinach.

With crispy has brown. Seems fluffier than usual. Substitute chef. Normally works at an elementary school. Might have to enroll in elementary school again. Hee hee.

The Mouse’s order.

Caper-Dill Fish Sandwich

w/ arugula, tomato & onion. Best fish sandwich in a long time. Didn’t have to go to McD’s yesterday. No comparison. Hee hee.

The slaw included green apples, usually not into mixing fruit and vegetables together, but the slaw worked. Just a tiny touch of sweetness.

Blueberry Bread Pudding

Loaded with blueberries. Yay!

Hope your weekend was great. One day work then another day off (Fourth of July). ๐Ÿ™‚

Enjoy. Eat well.

Sorta.

Started with this.

Box

We have sooooo much tea at home, time to start thinning the inventory. The Cat’s connections think we drink tea in SPAM land like they drink tea at home.

Tea Leaves

With tea, the normal breakfast sandwich, or toast for that matter, wouldn’t quite fit. So …

SPAM Onigiri and Japanese Rolled Omelet

The portable version of SPAM and eggs. Hee hee.

Then, boss #2 (think Star Trek: The Next Generation) brings in dim sum.

Dim Sum

Steamed dumplings, pork hash, fried seaweed and shrimp. Perfect with tea. Hee hee #2.

Another “portable version”. Hee hee #2.

The Mouse ate the dim sum plate for lunch, thank goodness for office microwaves. ๐Ÿ™‚

Enjoy. Eat well.

On the way back from the Taste of Kualoa tour, made an impromptu stop at Temple Valley Shopping Center. The tour only whet our appetite, The Cat and The Mouse were hungry.

Menu Cover

The coffee shop used to be at another location, when they closed (before this blog even started), The Mouse didn’t know they moved to a different location. Lucky we drove by and looked. Food is not fancy nor gourmet, think old school coffee shop, and that’s okay.

The Cat’s Order

Vegetarian omelet, country potatoes, toast. There were four slices of toast, but, … things happen. Did I mention The Cat was hungry?

The Mouse’s Order

Grilled Mahi sandwich, fries, lettuce, tomato, pickle. Decent food (in a good way) and reasonable prices.

Another place for eats over on the windward side of SPAM land. ๐Ÿ™‚

Enjoy. Eat well.
