A small continuation of The Cat’s lunch Monday (non-food).

Surrounding the restaurant.

Catching some rays. Also part of the restaurant ambiance.

“Giant” Mango

People that gave this mango to The Cat thought it was “too pretty” to eat. Looked at it for a couple of days, as it was ripening, decided it would be a waste not to eat it but still could bring themselves to “commit the deed”. Gave it to The Cat who quickly dispatched it with no emotional attachment at all. Hee hee.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Picked up over the past weekend.

You’ve seen these before.

“Canned” Mango

“Gift” by Chef Hardy. In heavy syrup, The Cat says “yum”. Still not quite sure what the dark thing is though. Have to take a bite/lick later.

Canned Mango on Dragonfruit Peel

For color, hee hee.

Can of Snails

From Chef Zone. Thought I’d try making escargot at home (since The Cat likes it). Online recipes look easy enough, but then, The Mouse “chickened”. Think I’ll have a quick consult with Chef H before attempting.

Happy 4th (if you are so inclined), if not, happy day.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Weekend Recap

Not too much happened.

Picked up a couple of mangoes at the farmers market for The Cat.

The left is from the Philippines (or was it Mexico), the right from Maui. The Cat like the Maui one better.

Used The Martha to braise chicken feet.

Lots of naps.

Hope your long weekend went well (if you had one).

Enjoy. Eat well.

Last night, I was helping the pantry chef, K, purée mangoes.

Mango Purée

Chef uses it to make a chocolate mango ganache for his candies. Can’t wait to try that.

Chef was talking to one of his good friends back in France (did I ever mention Chef received most of his training in France?). He was walking around with his mobile phone showing his friend his kitchen and introduces me as one of his chefs. Almost peed in my pants, I laughed so hard.

Don’t worry, the incident did not go to my head.

Eat well.

Grass Jelly and Mangoes

To say The Cat loves mangoes is an understatement.

However, I don’t think the feeling is mutual, mangoes kind of disagree with The Cat. She thinks mangoes and other tropical fruits may have too much something in them in the Qi sense.

For The Cat, not eating mangoes is not an option.

Peeled Mangoes

One food that seems to counteract the effect of mangoes is grass jelly.

It’s an acquired taste. Not so extreme as natto or stink doufu, but the jelly has a definite herbal taste to it. Small kid time we used to top it with maple syrup (maybe imitation), before eating it.

I’ve gotten used to the taste and actually kind of like it.

Grass Jelly

At least there is a remedy.

A little bit of mango, a little bit of grass jelly, and all is balanced in the world.
