A revisit to Simply Sichuan.

Twice Cooked Pork

The main ingredient is pork belly. The pork is simmered until soft, then stir-fried with vegetables. The Mouse thought the pork should be crispy but The Cat’s brother said otherwise. If (and a big if), The Mouse attempt this dish, the pork will be crisped. 🙂

Spicy Eggplant on Fried Rice

A lunch special. Ordered mild. Quantity was ginormous, enough for three meals. 🙂

Stir-Fried Lotus Root

Nom.

The Cat also ordered a bowl of dan dan noodles (same as last week).

Stay safe and well.

The Cat took her relative to Christmas lunch.

Kinda ended up like the dinner in “A Christmas Story” except nothing was burnt or ruined, it was Chinese though.

T0 be clear, if The Cat and The Mouse took those package DNA test, it should come back that we have Chinese roots.

So naturally, there’s a good chance that a Christmas meal, or any meal for that matter that involves The Cat’s old relative, ends up being Chinese.

The Place

Nothing fancy, one of many Chinatown “holes-in-the-wall”,

Place Setting

Basic, The Mouse thought the blue plate and the red bowl was a nice look.

Braised Pork Belly with Pickled Vegetable

Not kau yuk, no fermented tofu. Still, pretty tasty.

Lo-Mein

The Cat ordered way too much food, but figured its holiday. 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.

Still in dim sum mode. Sunday, The Cat had to run an errand into town. Good opportunity to try a recommended dim sum joint.

Sign

After the meal at Yauatcha, The Mouse was still jonesing for dim sum.

Spinach and Shrimp Dumplings

Good, but nothing to knock the socks off. Pretty standard. Prices are probably a third of Yauatcha, a good thing.

Fried Turnip Cake

There were shredded pieces of turnip in the cake. Good.

Braised E-Mein Noodles

One of the better e-mein plates in town. Flavorful and lots of toppings. Definitely would order again.

Mushroom Buns

Kinda looks like mushrooms, don’t they?

Bite View

Mushrooms and preserved vegetables. Yum.

Stir Fried Lotus Root and Tree Fungus

Something different. Another order again item.

Finished with Portuguese Egg Tarts. Forgot to take a picture.

Thanks R for the suggestion.

The Cat put the place on the return list. 😉

Enjoy.Eat well.

HNL>>PVG via NRT

The Cat went to visit her elderly relatives (before they become ancestors, if you catch my drift). Last dinner at SPAMland.

Chopsticks

One of the reasons the place was picked was because The Cat likes the bathroom, alas, the woman’s restroom just had a regular WC (must’ve broke and been replaced).

Luckily, the man’s side still had the technology.

No Feet Soup

No feet this week. Try something different.

Country Style Pork Ribs and Lotus Root

Simmer for a couple of hours.

Done

Simple. Soup (more like a broth) will not stiffen up with collagen, much lighter.

Enjoy. Eat well.
