New Shiso

Our shiso plants that started several months ago were withering and dying. The Mouse thought that was the last of them until maybe next year.

But, the weekend, new plants started.

Even for me. Let me explain.

One of The Cat’s friends gave her a box of concentrated red ginseng extract.

The little spoon came with the box, cute yeah? But I digress. It’s six-year-old, pure ginseng extract. Very expensive.

The inside looks like something Jed Clampett might pull out of the ground (“black crude”, “Texas Tea”,”black gold”), hee hee.

The taste is not too pleasant, not excessively horrible, just not something I might gravitate to (my opinion). To me, ginseng has a very distinct taste and the extract has that powerful taste.

The instructions say to stir it into warm water and at sweetener (honey, sugar, etc.) to make it taste better but the two flavors don’t match (my opinion again). So, what did I do?

Ginseng on Toast

See, told you it was weird. Toast, butter, and a tiny bit of the ginseng extract.

Not bad. Definitely an acquired taste though. More palatable than dissolving it in water (still my opinion).

For me, it was just to try (The friend bought it for The Cat’s benefit after all). The Cat did not mind the water method, good for her.

So, the ginseng will not becoming a part of my regular diet … Happy Mouse. 🙂

Good to try though. Heading over to a Chinese dinner for some kind of chamber of commerce thingy (more of The Cat function). More on that later.

Enjoy. Eat well.
