Last time tried to get into Tim Ho Wan was a no-go.

This past Sunday, ran an errand, The Mouse had an impulsive thought. What if, The Mouse tried to eat after the initial morning crowd, since traditionally dim sum was a breakfast event?

Went there about 3:00 in the afternoon. No waiting … Score!

Only limitation was that ordering for one is limited (The Mouse’s stomach capacity is only so big), on the plus side, don’t have to order by committee (The Mouse most times defers) and The Mouse doesn’t have to share. Hee hee.

Napkin

According to one of The Cat’s acquaintances, restaurant is known for their rice dishes, so …

Steamed Ground Beef with Fried Egg on Rice

Winner! Kinda like Chinese loco moco (but without gravy). Definite order again.

About the gravy? According to server, restaurant makes their own soy sauce.

Soy Sauce

The Mouse did taste a slight difference. A few drops on the egg, good to go. Hee hee.

Deep-Fried Eggplant with Shrimp

Another winner. Some restaurants are kind of skimpy with the shrimp filling. Here, very generous.

Nom View

Filling almost as high as the eggplant. Well prepared. Eggplant crispy on the outside, very soft on the inside. Yum!

Another order again dish.

Finished off with a little sweet.

Red Bean Soup

The weakest link. Good, but when compared with the other dishes, okay. Maybe slightly overpriced? Just slightly.

So, the reconnaissance mission a success. Can’t wait to go back and try their char siu bao. Another recommended order.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Treasure Hunt

The Cat sent The Mouse looking for bilberry extract (The Cat has some eye issues). The Cat has an aversion to pills so had to be in liquid form. Whole Foods, nada. Had to call and search the local health food market, Down to Earth.

Bilberry and Eye Health Concentrate

After all that running around, a little too late to go back home for dindin (travel and prep time, even if it is just a PB & J sandwich).

Since The Mouse was in the neighborhood … and there was one street parking left … Heh heh.

That’s The Mouse’s rationalization and he is stiking to it. 🙂

A stop into Sweet Home Glad (one of the best cheap eats on The Mouse’s list).

The go-to dish.

Steamed Fish Filet, Ginger and Onion

With soybeans. Wish there was a mac salad option, but minor detail.

And because The Mouse was hungry …

Side Order Stuffed Eggplant

A good nom night for The Mouse. 🙂

The Cat’s Bento

The weekly one-pot thingy.

Chick Peas, Mushrooms, SPAM, Frozen Tofu, Mushroom Gravy

Everything into the pot and hope for the best. Luckily, The Cat liked.

Eggplant, from the Farmers Market over the Weekend

Just boiled until soft.

Eggplant

Add rice and sweet potato from The Mouse’s take-out plate from the other night, assemble.

The Cat’s Bento

Ready for the microwave.

Enjoy. Eat well.

More Char

This time, eggplant.

Eggplant

Partially peeled, medium sliced. medium low heat, non-stick pan, avocado oil, finish with sprinkle of salt (like French fries). 🙂

Pan Charred Eggplant

Original plan was to put a miso glaze. Ran out of time. The Mouse would fail in an Iron Chef competition. Sigh.

The Cat liked anyway.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Eggplant?

Or golf balls? Hee hee.

Got these from the farmers market.

Eggplant

Golf ball sized.

Vendor said best stewed or braised. Okay.

Cleaned

Leftover roast pork, the brown gravy variety, not the Chinese crispy skin variety.

Stir-fried the eggplant, added a little water, a little whiskey, let everything braise for 15-20 minutes.

Added the roast pork and package of brown mushroom gravy, braise for another 5 minutes.

The eggplant kinda lost its structure, dish became more thick gravy. The Cat liked.

The Cat’s “Teishoku”

Rice (in a cat themed bowl), seaweed soup (with soybeans), eggplant and roast pork in mushroom gravy.

Enjoy. Eat well.
