Not temperature, spice. Sardines in hot sauce on sale at the grocery store. The Mouse tried sardines in hot sauce before, not a favorite, but he has been watching a lady on YouTube attempt to raise her spice tolerance. The Mouse thought give the sardines another try. Plus the whole lunch was cheap eats. Hee hee.

Normally, The Mouse would throw the sardines over steamed rice, but because the sardines were packed in hot sauce, not oil, the Mouse thought might be better with instant noodles (the fried noodles adding the oil factor). Normally, The Mouse tries to stay away from instant noodles.

Cooked the noodles, 1/3 of the soup packet, sardines without the sauce (too spicy), mustard green stem.

The hot sauce was more vinegar-y than spicy. The Mouse still not a fan, but it was okay. The Mouse prefers the oil packed sardines. But the picture turned out nice. Hee hee.

So, a dollar for the sardines, less than fifty cents for the noodles (The Mouse only used half a package, a couple of cents for the mustard greens. Cheap eats indeed! 🙂

Stay safe and well.

The Mouse used the bones from the pork chop and made a “waste not” bowl of noodles for The Cat.

Took the bones, simmered for a couple of hours, added turnip and udon noodles. Simple.

“Tonkatsu” Udon

The Cat slurped.

Another super simple bowl, this time for The Mouse. Orzo pasta, sardines, wakame, black pepper to taste.

The Mouse’s Lunch

The Mouse doesn’t think the Campbell’s soup company would give him a job. Doesn’t matter, The Mouse liked. Hee hee.

Stay safe and well.

The Cat has been wanting pho for a couple of weeks. The Mouse not willing to venture into Chinatown for eating in quite yet.

The Cat and The Mouse ended up at the mall. Lines for CPK and Olive Garden. No line at Mama Phở. Try try.

The Cat decided on the crab phở.

Crab Phở

Not usual beef, seafood and tomato based. Huge bowl, face wash basin sized. Hee hee.

The Cat was a little disappointed that the crab was more pork and crab meatballs and not crab crab. There was also a lot of steam pork loaf (think Vietnamese bologna or SPAM) which The Mouse happily help scarf. 🙂

The Mouse followed the recommendation of the server and ordered the pork chop and tofu rice plate.

Pork Chop and Tofu Rice Plate

Good choice, rice was colored with annatto (not natto) which gave the rice a slight earthy spice aroma/flavor. A good choice. The Mouse wonders how pork belly, braised then grilled would be. Hmm.

In hind thought, it was somehow weirdly appropriate that The Cat and The Mouse ended up at a place named Mama Phở yesterday. Hee hee.

Stay safe and well.

The Cat’s lunch Friday.

“Italian Style” Pork Chop

At first, when The Cat sent the picture to The Mouse, The Mouse thought the dish looked like beef with mushrooms Chinese Style (maybe too much moo goo gai pan on the brain?). The Cat ate most of it and brought back a few pieces of pork for The Mouse to try.

The Mouse ate the leftovers for Saturday brunch.

The Mouse added sweet potato to the bowl. Mmm.

If the Mouse tries cooking this dish, definitely consider using pork belly instead.

Stay safe and well.

The Mouse ran an errand near a Dunkin’ (Donut), avocado toast advertised. The Mouse intrigued.

Too bad The Mouse doesn’t have a company concept picture. But this what The Mouse received.

Avocado Toast with Bacon

Hmm, kinda looks like after opening an Ikea box. Hee hee. Now in Dunkin’ defense, because the order was take-out, The Mouse did as for the ingredients to be separate to prevent sogginess. Just didn’t expect the avocado be pre-packed. Ingredient list was avocado, lemon juice, salt, pepper. No preservatives other than the lemon juice. Good.

The Mouse assembled.

Dunkin’ Avocado Toast with Bacon

Over all, given the price (much lower than restaurants), turned out better than first impression. The sesame seeds in the advertising was missing though. The Mouse was pleasantly surprised. 🙂

Stay safe and well.
