Take-out diner up the street from home. The Cat was feeling a little under the weather.
Ma-po Tofu, Chicken Katsu
Dinner for The Cat, dinner for The Mouse, a little bit leftover. 🙂
The diner has a small condiment section with tiny sauce container to mix and match your own. The Mouse mixed catsup, sriracha sauce, A-1 steak sauce, and spicy mustard. Almost taste like Japanese Bulldog sauce. One of The Mouse favorites. 🙂
Oxtail soup to start The Cat’s week. Go-to Japanese/Pho Restaurant in the neighborhood.
Oxtail Soup
The Mouse was going to order a steamed fish filet with ginger, kitchen was out. Sigh. Alternative was chicken katsu.
Chicken Katsu
There are now two places in the neighborhood that The Mouse can go for chicken katsu, which could be both good and bad. Good is that food is good, bad because The Mouse should be eating healthier. Moderation.
The Mouse also ordered a plate of spring rolls.
Spring Rolls
The vegetables and noodles give the impression of being “healthier”. Hee hee.
The neighborhood go-to take out for The Cat and The Mouse has been getting swamped with take-out orders. Their standard plates include two scoops of rice, one scoop of mac salad. The Mouse usually orders all rice. Easier to divvy up into The Cat’s bento and such.
Saturday Lunch (and Beyond)
Blackboard special No. 2, mapo tofu and chicken katsu, extra fried egg added for The Cat’s bento.
Seems they hired additional help in the kitchen and for the second time the all rice request was not filled. The counter person checks the orders before passing it to the customer. This time she caught the error and added another scoop of rice.
Scoop of Rice
The Mouse ate more than normal, the extra mac salad was the kicker. The Mouse likes mac salad but restrains because of the extra fat calories.
The Mouse went to pick up dinner at the neighborhood take-out. He was going to order something from the menu but when he got there, the line was long. Kitchen looked a little hectic. The Mouse decided to go with one of the blackboard specials.
Special #2
Mapo tofu and chicken katsu over rice and mac salad. The Mouse ordered all rice, no mac salad, but the counter and kitchen were slammed. No worries, The Mouse cheated for one day. Leftovers for The Cat’s bento.
For The Cat’s dinner, one oxtail leftover, simmered for several hours (The oxtail was slightly under simmered), half a soup spoon of rice, rehydrated bamboo shoot, shitake mushroom, and wood ear fungus. Cucumbers and frozen vegetables just before service.
The Mouse has been eating lotsa chicken katsu lately, not by choice, although The Mouse does enjoy, but because its being offered on specials. And The Mouse likes specials. Hee hee.
First was over the weekend, bought on the way back from getting vaccination.
