Steamed Pork Belly Bowl

So, apparently, the company/warehouse I work at is exempt from the lockdown. Work as usual.


Thinly sliced pork belly over mixed grains.

The oil from the pork helped flavor the rice. Nom!

For extra oomph The Mouse added an egg.

Shoyu and chipotle sauce. If this was on any dim sum steam cart, The Mouse would definitely take.

Chasiu Bowl

Short post today.

Picked up from the grocery store on the way home.

Chasiu Bowl

It’s not charsiu, nor Chinese roast pork, nor hong shao rou. But it was warm and at a reduced price. Quick and cheap, served the purpose. Not bad, coulda used a little more gravy/sauce. Hee hee.

Finally, the phone and the computer talk. Sheesh!

Picked this up at a yard sale, I think.

Soup Bowl with Cover

Not perfectly designed, handle too short, bowl and cover not fully integrated, but works well in warming soup or beans in the toaster oven. Forgot what The Mouse paid for it, but it was a bargain.

Leftover from The Cat’s lunch.

Black Rice

Not sure about the particulars, where, what, etc. Something about last week’s lunch? Luckily the refridge partially froze the rice.

The Mouse tried for breakfast. Nom! 🙂

A bit busy, The Mouse sending out resumes, The Cat planning a short inter-island weekend.

Hmm. Appears I did not hit the publish button on this post. Clearly operator error, or senior moment, etc. Sigh.

Wasn’t really enthused about it for breakfast, but still had many packets left.

Hmm. Maybe make the oatmeal savory.

More water, more cooking time.

The last of the Chinese meatball.

The results? Much better. Kinda risotto-y, kinda grits-y. The added water and cooking time helped to smooth out the oatmeal texture while still being “hearty”.

So, The Mouse’s conclusion? Rolled oats for breakfast, steel cut oats for savory (with modifications).

Turning “lemons” into “lemonade”.
