From the previous post, The Mouse saw pics of beef stew with tendon (Chinese style) from a hole in the wall Chinese chop suey house near the warehouse where The Mouse works. Parking is an issue, especially during weekday commuting hours (tow away zone).

The Mouse specifically drove to town to try yesterday.

Beef Stew with Tendon on Rice

Not bad, quantity was huge, two meals, dinner for The Mouse, bento for The Cat, very tender. The Mouse didn’t get to try the tendon went to The Cat’s bento. Priced decently. Could’ve been a little more aggressively seasoned. The Mouse couldn’t detect any five-spice seasoning. But that’s just The Mouse. Also, not sure the beef was brisket, little too lean. But, try try.

The Mouse also ordered char siu bao buns, relatively cheap.

Char Siu Buns

The Mouse added shiso leaves (the maybe last remnants for this season). Dunno, but the buns somehow remind me of Audry II? Any resemblance is unintentionally coincidental. Hee hee.

Stay safe and well.

The Mouse wanted gravy yesterday. Dunno why.

“Brunch” after dentist cleaning.

Beef stew over rice, arabiki musubi, tofu musubi, steamed broccoli, honey ginger “tea”. Japanese style beef stew, the gravy base is very rich tasting. The Mouse would eat the arabiki musubi again. No match to a SPAM musubi but very good.

For dinner, The Mouse still in “gravy mode”. Another locally owned take-out.

Daily Special #3

Chili burger and mushroom chicken. Weird combo, but, kinda works. There’s a burger patty buried under the chili. Majority of the rice and more than half of the mushroom chicken packed for The Cat’s bento, The burger patty and a little of the chili packed for The Mouse’s bento. Mac salad and the rest for The Mouse’s dinner. 🙂

Stay safe and well.

Pre-Chinese New Year Eats

Surprise! The Cat ate beef twice this week. Usually not her favorite choice of protein, but … couple days ago, Chinese beef stew soup look funn, and yesterday …

Beef Stew Bowl

From the Irish pub, Murphy’s. Maybe The Cat has a new year’s resolution? Hee hee.

The Cat brought home for The Mouse noms.

So, the day before was a bit of a bummer. Sorry ’bout that. Yesterday’s mood was “damn the torpedoes!” or in this case the faulty plumbing.

A revisit to Zippy’s, they messed up The Mouse’s order the first time, told me to come back in at my convenience to correct the order.  And since location is across the street from the farmer’s market, stayed for breakfast/lunch.

Mini Corned Beef Hash and Eggs

The Cat’s order.

The Mouse went with lunch special.

Hawaiian Beef Stew

There was a lot more soup, The Mouse drank down to show detail. The difference? The Mouse’s understanding is that the local version doesn’t thicken the broth, more soupy than gravy, just what The Mouse needed!

Rice and Corn

Part of The Mouse’s order, went home for The Cat’s bento.

Oh, and instead of doing a price correction on the errand order? They just gave me the correct order. good deal!

Enjoy. Eat well.

Started off with The Mouse picking up his prescription, the specialty pharmacy only opens until 12:00 noon. Then, off to chingming with the relatives.

The Ancestor

The Offering

The Mouse couldn’t stay for lunch, had to do the inconvenient paycheck cashing (looong story). So, picked up a gravy/rice bowl on the way.

Recently opened. The Mouse was looking at the musubi selection but a little pricey, went with a bowl of rice and Japanese beef stew instead (more quantity for the money, remember, The Mouse is “pake”, Hee hee).

Japanese Beef Stew Bowl

Not photogenic, but yummy. Lots of gravy, enough vegetables and beef, definitely going back for the stew, and maybe the curry (Japanese style).

Dinner was kinda impromptu. The Mouse kinda was leaning toward the Irish pub near The Cat’s office, but The Cat seemed to be needing Chinese comfort food, on the way looking for parking, we ended up here.

Go figure. Shared the vegetarian sampler plate.

Vegetarian Sampler Plate

With sourdough injera flatbread. While filling, The Mouse thought something was still “missing”. Nothing a small Mickey D burger can’t satisfy (just sayin’), hee hee.

Desert was a peanut drink, reminded The Cat of Chinese black sesame drink, reminded The Mouse of melted peanut butter. 🙂

Peanut Drink

An “adventurous” Saturday.

Enjoy. Eat well.
