Saturday morning, lotsa running around.

Doctor appointment,

Walmart (The Cat’s instant noodles), tax season almost over.

Some Chinatown produce shopping,

Some bank stuff (long story.

Random pics.

Panda Buns

Filled with black sesame paste, picked them up at a stall while shopping for produce.

Fish Sandwich and Fries

Fast food.

Not one of The Mouse’s proudest moments, but got hungry running errands.

Okra Pickles

Last of the jar, from Picnics from the Vine, The Mouse’s favorite artisanal preserve maker. Pickles helped to cut the heaviness of the sandwich and fries.

Beef Broccoli

Dinner, from the neighborhood chop suey. The Mouse can only eat while The Cat is not around. Number 1, has beef, number 2, she doesn’t think beef broccoli is “Chinese” food. Oh well, The Mouse liked. 🙂

Taro Duck

Mostly for The Cat’s bento, plus, The Mouse was in the mood. Hee hee.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Snack Stop

Back of the farmers market, while searching for cassava, tiny snack shop.

The Mouse ate.

Roast Duck Bao Buns

Cheap eats.

Cartoon Bao

Sweet. Filled with taro, black sesame, matcha, and The Mouse forgot the last one.

Oink

Cute ya?

And since The Mouse was in the neighborhood, stopped in at Nishodo Candy.

Mochi!

Old school mochi shop. Peanut butter (The Mouse’s fave), lilikoi, coconut (The Mouse’s least fave), green tea, and regular red bean. Chomp.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Still in lunar new year eating mode. 🙂

Not Jai

Wood ear fungus, sequa squash, pork. Close enough. Hee hee.

Enjoy. Eat well.

This past weekend went back to Chez Kenzo. A number of menu item that intrigued me. It is the rare occasion that I want to try many items on a menu. Usually I focus on one or two things and kind of stick with them if they’re good.

This go round, it was the Chicken Yuzu Bao Buns.

Chicken Yuzu Bao Buns

Chicken Yuzu Bao Buns

Sautéed chicken, cucumber, tomato, shiso leaves. Served with homemade bao sauce and citrus (yuzu) pepper sauce.

Yum. Socks off. Chicken, crispy exterior, tender interior. Hosin-like sauce lightly brushed on the bun.

The kicker was the citrus pepper sauce.

Yuzu Pepper Sauce

Yuzu Pepper Sauce

As far as I can tell, yuzu pulp with Japanese version of ground Szechuan peppers. Pretty Awesome.

With a side of thick cut fries.

Fries

Fries

Yes!

Truthfully, there were minor oops in the execution of the buns, the buns themselves weren’t steamed long enough, the vegetables were too thick for me to make a nice “package” bao. But the whole made up for the slight flaws of the parts.

Mentioned before, I wanna try the menchi katsu burger, the various Japanese inspired pastas, uni, ume, mentaiko, and the all important natto!

Can’t wait.

Now if  they only did a pork belly bun … one can only dream. 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.

Hungry Mouse

Wednesday I had a weird schedule. Too much road time. By the time I got to the farmers market … famished. Started with two baked bao buns.

Pork adobo on the left, char siu on the right.

The pork adobo bun had sufficient filling, the char siu bun, a little skimpy. For a dollar each, can’t complain. But, I was still hungry.

A quick walk around the area, the poke (raw fish salad) vendor wants to go home early and is discounting. Happy Mouse.

Poke Take Out

Poke Take Out

From top left, ahi poke with masago (capellin roe), ahi poke with mac nut, spicy tuna, and ocean salad. No rice (carbs from the bao buns).

Mmmmmm, Yummm! 🙂

Needless to say, didn’t need dinner when I got home.

Enjoy. Eat well.
