The Mouse learned something new. Slicing onions from shoot to root (north to south) is less tearful than slicing east to west.

The Mouse sliced half an onion, little to none eye irratation.

Sliced Onions

The Mouse sautéed the onion with the last of the leftover bacon steak.

Bacon and Onion on Pita

A drizzle of yellow mustard. Mmm.

If The Mouse had planned better, he would have sprinkled a little bit of instant coffee while sautéing. The Mouse loves the combination of bacon and coffee.

So, this method only works with sliced onions. If dicing or garnishing sandwiches or burgers? All bets are off. 😦

Stay safe and well.

The main food. The Cat ordered salmon.

Pan-Seared Ora King Salmon

Served on a bed of sweet corn, yellow and zucchini squash, cauliflower rice, edamame, fresh basil, blistered tomatoes, salsa verde, and grilled lemon. The Cat said salmon was cooked perfectly.

The Mouse went the menu less traveled, since everything was ala carte, ordered two appetizers.

Nueske;s Bacon Steak

Thick-cut, soy-caramel glazed. Mmm. Texture was chewy, taste reminded The Mouse of fried SPAM, in a good way. Hee hee.

SRF Wagyu Meatballs

Sans Parmesan cheese. Very good, definite order again.

Sides were large portions to share.

Sautéed Brussels Sprouts

With bacon and shallots.

Sautéed Spinach & Button Mushrooms

Server recommended the mushrooms with onions but with The Cat digestion issues with onions …

Actually, the spinach and mushrooms were very good too.

Stay safe and well.

The Mouse was jonesing for liver yesterday. Used to be a staple on many “diner” style restaurants. Nowadays, kinda hard to find on menus. Luckily one of The Mouse’s “go-to” drive inns (Meg’s Drive Inn) still serve.

Liver with Onions and Bacon

A mess of onions and bacon. Yum! Happy Mouse!

Of course, couldn’t leave the place without ordering The Mouse’s favorite soft drink, strictly for nostalgic purposes. Hee hee.

Green River

A great start to a three-day weekend. 🙂

Stay safe and well.

After The Mouse took another blood test. Take-out from Pan’s Kitchen.

The Cat’s Corned Beef Hash, Over Easy Order

.

The Mouse’s Bacon, Sausage, Over Easy Order

Both orders sitting on a bed of rice.

The Cat eats neat, all components kept intact, The Mouse eats “mixed”. Mixed the rice and eggs, added preserved mustard cabbage from the refridge, bacon/sausage in left paw, spoon in right.

Mixed

Enjoy. Eat well.

The Mouse really can’t knock hospital food, granted, not gourmet, but serves a higher purpose. Help patients recover. But, on the last day of The Mouse’s hospital stay, he kinda got a little crazy (once a foodie always a foodie right?). Kitchen has a option of building own sandwich. The Mouse was on a soft food diet for a couple of days, very little meat protein (or protein at all).

The Mouse went for it. The concierge taking the order questioned it, and the server delivering the tray questioned it but to The Mouse, it was a happy discovery.

Vegetable Soup, Cranberry Juice, Sandwich

Hummus on sourdough bread, spinach, mushrooms, and the kicker, bacon. It was awesome!

The Mouse thinks sourdough was the right choice, a whole grain might be conflicting. Just an opinion.

Stratification View

The bacon crispy and crumpled (just the way The Mouse likes it, easier to bite), could’ve use a bit more spinach and mushrooms, the hummus, holding everything together as well as providing a healthier substitute for mayonnaise.

If there is ever a chance to order this combo sandwich again? In a heartbeat.

So for an update, the last patient goal to indicate the body is getting back to normal (see previous post), check (this morning (TMI?). 🙂

The Mouse was getting a little concerned and uncomfortable. Hee hee.

Enjoy. Eat well.
