After purchasing The Cat’s coffee and cocoa beans (see previous post), time for lunch. The Mouse was not expecting too much since the area is tourist oriented. Picked a spot, Stonefish Grill.

The Cat ordered “soup and salad”.

Seafood Chowder

Fresh seafood, potatoes, celery, and house seasoning in a thick sherry cream based soup. The soup was not hot to The Cat’s standard. Explanation was that since we were seated and ordered at opening, the soup didn’t have enough time to heat. Wha? The Mouse thinks soup should be ready at opening. Oh well, maybe someone in the kitchen forgot. Sigh. The Cat said taste was good.

Crab Cake Salad

House baby greens mix, mango salsa, avocado lime aioli. Lotsa bell peppers and onions which were pushed aside for The Mouse. Colorful tho’.

The Mouse ordered the Stonefish fish sandwich, which on that day was broadbill swordfish (shutome).

Fish Sandwich

Local catch grilled, served on baby greens & toasted bun with tater sauce. Not bad, fish could have been a little larger (at least to fit bread length), swordfish would not have been The Mouse’s first choice but “fresh catch” is a dice throw. Fries were excellent.

Even with the missteps lunch was enjoyable. Road trip and The Cat’s beans probably helped. Hee hee.

Stay safe and well.

Road Trip

And buying local. One of The Cat’s favorite afternoon “pick-me-ups”, chocolate covered coffee beans. So far, the only place we’ve found them was at the source, the old Waialua Sugar Mill. So, a road trip.

Objective

The Cat also picked up roasted cocoa beans, to try try.

The Mouse, in looking for other points of interest (since the outing was a “road trip”) found Manoa Honey, makers of local honey and mead. Alas the close on Sundays and Mondays. Excuse for another road trip in relative near future. Luckily the sugar mill carried a sampling of their honeys, no mead.

Honeys

The honey and cacao nib should be interesting. The Mouse will let you know later.

Stay safe and well.

Road Trip, Small Kine

The Cat wanted to light a candle at Sunset Beach for her father. Small kine road trip.

The View

Despite windy conditions, we were able to light the candle for a little while.

The Candle

Since we were out there, a little lunch at a gastropub.

Interior

A sample.

Salmon Salad

Grilled salmon, candied walnuts, sliced pear. Veggies! Hee hee.

Shrimp Po’ Boy

Sweet potato fries, avocado, lots of cole slaw. Lots of cole slaw, balance slightly off. Still good though. 🙂

Beer Battered Fish and Chips

Typical gastropub fare. Not bad. Place had malt vinegar, good sign.

Too full, missed out on the pecan bread pudding. Oh well, maybe next road trip.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Breakfast

Kona, bought pastries at neighborhood bakery, fruits from grocery store. The Mouse served as prep cook.

Papaya, Strawberries, Watermelon

A carton of oatmilk, and pop the pastries in the micro.

Cinnamon Rolls and One Savory Pie

The Mouse forgot what kind of savory pie it was, spinach?

After breakfast, we got to tour the coffee grounds. Oh a funny.

Can’t wait to get back when their visitor center is complete. 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.

“Omiyage”

The haul from “big island”.

Cookies

Chocolate chip with Japanese rice crackers, salty sweet. Nom!

White Tea Leaves

Grown on-premise. Super rare and expensive. But the people we bought for, worth it.

Coffee

Bags. Luckily The Mouse’s carry-on expanded a little.

Oh! And the owners of the coffee farm gifted The Mouse!

Burlap Bag

So happy! Dunno what to do with it yet. But … 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.
