Last night’s dinner.

The Cat’s Tray

Boiled dumplings, boiled turnip, seaweed and soybean soup, and vinegar for dipping.

Mooncakes

Kinda bite sized.

Half View

I think this one was red date.

The Mouse had a few dumplings then ended with a sandwich. Hee hee.

Headcheese sandwich

Simple, bread, butter, headcheese. Yum!

Happy belated moon festival!

Enjoy. Eat well.

Old School Lunch Counter

Stopped in here (The Mouse’s chiropractor doctor is nearby) to get a couple pastries, some for The Cat’s grab-n-go breakfast for the week, some for The Mouse. Hee hee.

Menu Cover

Since The Mouse was there … might as well get lunch. Hee hee again.

Counter View

No tables, counter dining only, like the old time diners. Several years ago, fine dining restaurants in SPAM Land touted a community table. Nothing new, these lunch counters are the original community tables. Everything old is new again. Hah!

Lunch Combo Special

Grilled chicken (meh), grilled mahi (awesome), white rice, lettuce and tomato salad (with dollop of mayo). The only thing missing is food is not on a blue plate. Hee!

Plate comes with bakery specialty butter roll.

Butter Roll

Sliced in half, grilled on the flat top, with the bakery’s famous/infamous neon radioactive jelly (The Mouse’s description). Breaking it down, The Mouse thinks the jelly is fruit punch syrup with gelatin. Just a thought.

Butter Roll Prep

Even the uniforms are a bit retro (or maybe never changed at all).

Oh, and the take home pastries?

Box

For The Cat: cornbread, blueberry and almond danish. For The Mouse, bear claw, and tuna and ham bun (last night’s dinner). 🙂

The Mouse’s spine got adjusted, lunch counter plate lunch, butter roll with glow in the dark jelly, pastries for the near future. A good day. Hee hee.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Or dumpling dipping sauce.

First, from JJ2 Bakery. The Cat picked up for The Mouse’s breakfast.

Pork Floss Bun

Think if char siu and pork jerky had kids. Hee hee.

Nom View

Perfect for desk eating. Not as juicy as manapua, but workpapers and fingers stay cleaner. Hee hee.

New store next to JJ2 Bakery: Hawaiian Sweet Potato Factory.

The Cat bought to try try.

Aloha Pie

Got a little damaged in the unpacking. Sweet potato, coconut, pineapple. Good, a bit overpriced for the slice.

Lastly, the last avocado from neighbor.

Avocado

Instead of citrus/shoyu (ponzu), did apple vinegar and shoyu (think gyoza dipping sauce). The Cat liked.

🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.

Update of food from the Japanese warehouse store.

Japanese Style White Bread

Denser texture than what I get at the “regular” grocery store, although The Mouse hasn’t bought commercial white bread in years. Bread was great with peanut butter and strawberry jam and tuna salad (not all at once). Not bad, the whole wheat bread from JJ2 Bakery is still favorite.

Brussels Style “Belgian” Waffle with Agave Syrup

What is Brussels style? I dunno.

Overall, not bad, thicker than a normal frozen waffle, but in the end, it’s still a frozen waffle. Good for eating at the desk. Yes, still eating at the desk for a couple more weeks. The Mouse can visualize a tiny dim light bulb turning on at the end of a dark tunnel. At least there’s a light bulb (and it’s not burnt out). Hee hee.

Enjoy the weekend.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Breadstuff

Jus’ pics of some of the bread/pastries we’ve recently acquired.

Honey Layer Cake

Take-out from the Uzbek eatery yesterday. Not bad, not too sweet, a little dry, good with hot tea.

Uzbek Naan

Also take-out from the Uzbek eatery. Thought The Cat might want to try.

Mini Rum Cake

Service fund raiser on campus. I think I wrote about this before. Pretty awesome, very “rummy”. A little pricey, but consider it a donation.

Puff Pastry

Chef “little” p is in town. The Cat likes.

Tomorrow is Monday. Ugh.

Enjoy. Eat well.
