A Little Snack

Had to go into town a couple of days ago. Missed lunch (not that big a deal). While waiting for the bus to go back home, thought I’d get a little “snack”.

At the mall. I think they may have opened in the last couple of months. “Cafeteria” style. Udon made to order, various tempura and rice balls  under heating lamps.

Had enough time for a snack, not quite enough to slurp noodles. Went with a “miso pork” rice ball and a”jumbo” inari.

Not  much pork, lot of miso paste. Not bad flavor, not too impressed (Clara Peller come to mind, to paraphrase, “where’s the pork?). The inari was better. Rice was nicely seasoned, toasted sesame seeds added for crunch.

Man (or Mouse) does not live by rice alone, so added a few tidbits.

Chicken was karaage  style, nicely seasoned, crunchy exterior, tender interior. Mushrooms were not bad either. As udon is not really my noodle of choice, I think I’ll stick to the Hong Kong Noodle House for noodles.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Sunday Snack

The musubi people (as well as Japanese style plate lunches) are back from vacation. Yay!

That’s not to say I don’t like the food from Diamond Head Market & Grill. But food from here does cost more.

So today, two of my favorite.

As a bonus, seems like the SPAM is cut extra thick today. Mmmmm SPAM!

Enjoy. Eat well.

Sunday Snack

I know, I know, it’s Tuesday, but I’m not dealing with real-time here.

It’s actually The Cat’s Sunday snack this time, Not The Mouse’s.

She thought she could hold until dinner (which will be posted tomorrow). But she got HUNGRY!

Chicken Musubi

It’s the one on the left. An oblong onigiri (Hawaiian style) topped with a piece of fried chicken. The regular SPAM musubi on the right is for size comparison and rice portion reference.

It’s even kinda big for me. but she scarfed it in minutes (seconds?).

Good to know I’m not the only one that can occasionally scarf.

To be perfectly blog transparent, the fried chicken musubi is a representation of her Sunday snack. The Cat scarfed the whole thing before she remembered to take a picture. I went back yesterday to take a picture in the grocery store, but size is similar.

Enjoy. Eat well.

More Rice Balls

This past Wednesday’s rice ball selection (a little snack before part-timing) at the church.

On the left, salmon, on the right mentaiko (spicy cod roe).

I never liked mentaiko before, too spicy. But lately, I don’t mind it.

You may have noticed, almost forgot to take the picture. 😉

We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

I’ve been wanting to try the fried rice musubi from here for a while (ever since I learned they offer fried rice musubi for sale, see original post here).

Sign

Stopped by several times and each time they were sold out (they only make a limited number and when they sell out, they sell out). 😦 They suggested I call ahead to hold one for me. Kind of felt funny to call to hold one but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Spam Musubi and Fried Rice Musubi

I also picked up a regular Spam musubi.

Spam Musubi and Fried Rice Musubi

I picked up the Spam musubi because I didn’t know the fried rice musubi included a slice of Spam.

Notice how the Spam is sandwiched between the rice? Not just on the top. The Spam musubi was good, one of the better ones I’ve tried. The fried rice musubi was OMG AWESOME! The fried rice was packed with bacon and eggs, and seasoned just right. It did kind of fall apart, but the taste clearly offset the little difficulty.

A definite winner!

Oh yeah, their pastries are pretty good too.

Big :). The Mouse was happy.

Enjoy.
