Bacalao Salad and Pastele

A try try on the way home. The Mouse liked. Saved one of the pastele for The Cat’s lunch this week.

Char Siu Puff Pastry

Leftover from The Cat’s lunch. 10 minutes in the toaster oven, good to go. Hee hee.

Next, The Mouse’s weird eats, hope co-worker V is not reading. Her leftover spaghetti from lunch she gave to The Mouse.

Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

The Mouse explains. Small-kid time hanabata days, The Mouse’s first encounter (and ultimate reference point) with spaghetti/pasta was from a can, then at elementary school, baked spaghetti by the awesome cafeteria ladies. There was no such thing as “al dente” and “sauce to complement the pasta” in The Mouse’s food knowledge quiver.

To this day, The Mouse will order pasta at restaurants “cooked past “al dente” and extra sauce.” Just a preference.

So, to “adjust” the spaghetti to The Mouse’s palate, added a can of tomato sauce and cooked the spaghetti just a little more.

The Mouse’s Plate

This was very nom! Thank you V, your leftovers went to good use, in The Mouse’s tummy. Hee hee 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.

Preserved Citrus

Storefront in Chinatown.

Jars

At first, The Mouse thought these were preserved lemons, but the different sizes and shapes got him confused. Maybe different citruses? Dunno.

The Mouse’s grandmother used to salt preserve lemons at home. She had the grandkids haul the jars to the galvanized garage roof. There were many a sizzled toe/sole from the hot metal.

Enjoy. Eat well.

The Cat is still on the tomato soup mend.

Tomato Soup and Yogurt

This time, for variety, The Mouse added a scoop of plain yogurt. The Mouse was looking for some kinda dairy, cream, sour cream was in too much quantity. Half a single serve container of yogurt was the ticket.

The Mouse finally caved.

Li Hing Powder

On sale, a little bit. There’s gonna be some happy canned pineapple and maybe an apple or two in The Mouse’s near future. And a happy mouse too. Hee hee.

Enjoy. Eat well.

One of the mochi from last week.

Mochi

Filled with red bean, pretty normal, but here’s the kicker, mochi was studded with ume! Awesome! Think asian flavored sea salt caramel. It’s that good. Maybe even better! 🙂

I know, Christmas still days away, but The Mouse bought little somethings for himself (and the kitchen).

Wood Composite Spatula, Folding Knife

The Mouse has been wanting to try one of the wood composite utensils for a while. The cheapo wooden utensil we usually buy gets beaten up pretty fast.

Oftentimes when The Mouse attends gatherings/potlucks/parties, he ends up helping prep or “food service”. Not that he minds but sometimes a small knife is needed and none to be found. The Mouse picked up an inexpensive Kershaw to use as a carry “prep” knife. Just so happens Kershaw is connected with Kai knives who produce the Shun line of knives. Just another useless trival tidbit roaming around in The Mouse’s head. Hee hee.

Jury still out about the knife. Definitely usable. But perfect? Not sure yet.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Driving home after work.

Double Rainbow

Mind started playing ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, the Judy Garland version, not the Iz version. Hee hee.

Don’t get me wrong, The Mouse loves the Iz version, just it wasn’t playing in my head at the moment.

Picked up on the way.

Onigiri

Ume and wakame, edamame and seaweed. Thoughts wander over to Zatoichi.

Zatoichi and Judy Garland soundtrack. Told ya weird. 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.
