The Mouse saw this place featured on one of the food show and wanted to try.

Not resort, neighborhood. Side of the highway. “Off the beaten path” you might say.

Inside, like walking into someone’s garage, converted into a kitchen/dining area. Super quaint/rustic.

The Spread

The menu, super simple. Lau lau, kalua pig with cabbage, rice, poi, lomi salmon, mac salad, haupia, kalolo. The Mouse thinks we ordered everything on the menu.

Awesome food. Again, not “gourmet”, but down-home real food.

According to a friend that lives nearby, they often sell out. Good for them.

If there is another opportunity, The Mouse will be back. 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.

No substitutions. The Mouse had to order a side.

Portion smaller than a regular plate lunch, good for The Mouse. No food coma today. 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.

Got to the grocery store a little too late for the complete Friday combo.

The Black Box

You’ve seen it before.

Friday Combp – Abbreviated

Chicken long rice – out, lomi salmon – out, sigh. At least the major components were available, lau lau and kalua pork.

The rice and sweet potato will go into The Cat’s bento next week. One less starch to deal with, maybe the haupia too.

Had a slight detour yesterday making The Mouse miss the complete combo. Did get two tea packets (from a co-worker) because of the detour though, long story.

Tea Packets

From Volcano Winery. Because their output is so small, each packet price is pretty outrageous. Glad I didn’t buy it, But what’s it about looking gift horses in their mouths?

Anywho, enjoy the weekend.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Over carbed? Maybe just a little bit. But they were all “brown”. (Sheepish grin).

Ran some “errands”. Washed towels at the laundromat. Our washer doesn’t like towels (bedsheets too for that matter).

While waiting …

SPAM Breakfast

Brown rice, easy over eggs, fried SPAM, whole wheat toast (buttered). Mix the eggs with the rice, SPAM between toast slices. Big nom! Socks not off, but close.

See movie. Wonder Woman. IMHO, more of a hero (like in Greek poems) movie than a “superhero” movie. Definitely, socks off.

“Late” lunch. After the movie.

Ko‘olau Drive Inn. Just to try.

Kalua Pork and Cabbage
Lau Lau Combo with Brown Rice

The kalua pork and cabbage, excellently prepared. One of the best. Lau lau was decent (a little too much pork for The Mouse’s taste, but I’m being picky).

After those two “epic” carb loaded meals, dinner was celery sticks. Hee hee.

Enjoy. Eat well.
