The Mouse had another doctor’s appointment yesterday. Since he was in town, The Cat sent him on an errand. By the time The Mouse was finished, it was lunch time. Between lunch hour traffic, one way streets, and construction, The Mouse couldn’t get to a few places to take-out. Finally landed at Asian Mix, picked up a roast duck and char siu on rice plate.

Roast Duck, Char Siu, Rice, Choi Sum

Huge portion, reasonably priced. The Mouse barely ate a quarter. Half of the duck, about half of the rice, and a lot of the choi sum went into The Cat’s bento for the next day. Half of the duck and a few stalks of choi sum went to The Cat’s dinner noodle bowl.

Noodle Bowl

Along with spaghetti pasta and canned bamboo shoots.

Another quarter of the rice portion and the remaining char siu is for The Mouse’s lunch today. 🙂

Priced out, each portion comes to three dollars and change. Not bad, “cheap eats”.

Stay safe and well.

Duck

So today is supposed to be the end of The Cat’s tax season, hopefully. For The Cat’s bento, The Mouse bought a Chinese roast duck, half.

Roast Duck

Rice, sweet potato, cucumber, and roast duck. Not bad for a bento. 🙂

Stay safe and well.

The Mouse had to pick-up his prescription near the airport. “Chinese-American” eats nearby. Throwback decades ago when Chinese food was “exotic”. Restauranteurs here would offer Chinese food, burgers and fries, and plate lunches to appeal to the masses. To The Mouse, this place is a rare-find relic to the past.

The Mouse’s original plan was won ton soup with vegetables and a burger. An accurate order would have been saimin and a burger (It’s a local thing), but The Mouse is a rebel. Hee hee.

But Saturday special noodles was cheaper. Remember, The Mouse is sometimes “pake”.

Crispy Gau Gee Mein

Gravy, not soup, gau gee, not won ton, fried not steamed. Same same, hee hee.

Before, at these Chinese-American places, cornstarch slurry is a constant friend. Same here.

To make a true “Chinese-American” experience, The Mouse also ordered.

Hamburger Delux

Everything for less than 10 bucks! Prices must be throwback too! Hee hee.

Not to leave The Cat out, The Mouse picked up half a roast duck for her dindin and bento protein.

Roast Duck

The Cat’s verdict? Not bad, Chinatown is better, but it’s decent. No complaints.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Lunch Fail

The Cat was talking about the duck dishes at Yauatcha and that the restaurant was near closing its doors to her office worker. He wanted to try.

Except from now to closing, restaurant opens only for dinner. Sigh.

Ended up at a chain restaurant, American Chinese food?

VIP Duck

A tender half duck served Cantonese-style and glazed with a sweet soy plum sauce. Served with flatbread, scallions and cucumbers.

Duck was oversauced and skin was chewy. Eww!

At least duck was boned. Hee hee.

The Cat had her “usual”.

Lettuce Wrap

The Cat thought too much crispy noodles, not enough filling.

Maybe main chef day off. Oh well.

In the meantime, we are battening down our hatches and filling any container with water. Might be a hairy couple of days in SPAM Land.

Enjoy. Eat well.
