Low and Slow

This week’s meat.

Pork Shoulder, Cubed

Par-boil clean, fresh water, liquid smoke, apple cider vinegar, salt. 3-hour slow braise.

After the meat cooled down a bit, The Mouse used a spoon to break up the cubes into a shred. Kalua pork, wet style.

More pics later.

Stay safe and well.

So, the place The Mouse picked up his maguro burger from also has omurice on the menu. The Mouse wants. There was a thought that after doing some work at the warehouse yesterday, The Mouse would get the omurice. The Mouse stayed a little longer than planned and didn’t want to drive across town for food.

The next best thing, drive through at Richie’s Drive Inn.

Loco Moco

Massive. Two scoops rice, two eggs, two burger patties, scoop of mac salad, and gravy all over. All for less than $10! Cheap eats.

The warehouse butcher supervisor is right, their gravy is the bomb! Nothing fancy, probably packaged with some in-house modification, no French name, but oh so good.

Plus there are some of the components of omurice (it’s a stretch, but work with me), rice, eggs, gravy. Kinda yeah?

Of course, a visit to Richie’s cannot be without a cup of green river.

Green River

Don’t worry, The Mouse couldn’t and wouldn’t eat the whole thing in one sitting (maybe thirty years ago). Even eating less than half put The Mouse into a food coma.

One day, one the timing is right, omurice! Hee hee.

Stay safe and well.

The shiso in the bucket is really thriving. For The Mouse, best way to eat shiso is first with sashimi, second in a sandwich. Right now, sandwiches seem easier to access. The Mouse was craving a fish sandwich, and since he was in the area, ordered a maguro burger.

While waiting, The Mouse took in the exterior “ambiance”. Hee hee.

Surf, Sumo, Musubi

Wall mural detail, seen in previous posting.

Rock Garden

Serenity near traffic. Hee hee.

The maguro burger usually comes with sweet potato fries but for take-out, The Mouse prefers salad if can. Restaurant accommodated.

Green Salad

The in-house dressing is really good.

Finally, the main eats.

Maguro Burger with Shiso

Lighting bad. The slaw was made with gobo (burdock). Mmm! This sandwich ruined other fish sandwiches for The Mouse. Hee hee.

Heading to work for a couple of hours. Hopefully the quiet will help.

Stay safe and well.

Crab Paste Try

From the warehouse “clearance” shelf, stuff that cannot be sold to customers, still good to use.

Ingredients indicated that the paste shouldn’t be too spicy.

At first, The Mouse was going to scramble eggs, but The Cat came home too late. So, The Mouse improvised.

Hee hee, scrambled eggs with crab paste.

The Mouse made jook with leftover rice and chicken broth. When The Cat was ready, brought the jook up to just starting to boil temperature, poured (not drop) the egg mixture in, turned off the heat, and let the pot sit for a minute or so.

Crushed peanut and parsley garnish.

The Cat liked.

The Mouse was trying to cut down on carbs, including rice. But after being on a liquid diet (albeit only for a day) and doing internal flushing (prescribed), The Mouse wanted rice.

After a large drink of water, The Cat and The Mouse lunched.

Oyster Po’ Boy

The Cat’s. Came with a cup of chowder.

Steamed Clams, Potato, Andouille Sausage

With rice! Doctor said after drinking lots of fluid, The Mouse could eat. The Mouse ate. Hee hee.

After lunch, The Mouse wanted something sweet. So much for losing weight on a liquid diet (although that was not the purpose). Hee hee again.

Server recommended.

Fried Oreo Cookie

Three to an order with vanilla ice cream. The Cat ate most of the ice cream (The Mouse took lactase pills but still tried to take it easy on the stomach), The Mouse ate the cookies. Nom!

So doctor preliminarily gave The Mouse a clean bill of health pending lab results of two polyps that he removed. Hopefully, The Mouse doesn’t have to do this again for a while. The procedure wasn’t bad, the prep was more traumatic. 🙂

Stay safe and well.
