Found/bought a package of beef cheeks at the grocery store. First time seeing for The Mouse. Searched the internet for cooking methods … low and slow.

The Mouse decided to do a slow braise with red wine.

Bottle

Christmas present a couple of years back. The Cat and The Mouse are always hesitant to open a bottle of wine, The Mouse shouldn’t drink too much (a jigger at most), and The Cat cannot finish the bottle at once. Kinda waste for the leftover. At least with the braise, the bottle didn’t go to waste.

First parboiled in plain water, washed cheek and changed water. Added wine (withheld a portion for The Cat to taste). Braised for approximately 2 hours, added large dice turnip, another hour braise. Salt, pepper, miso paste, dried oregano to taste.

Served over noodles.

The Dish

The Cat liked (similar taste/texture to oxtail), The Mouse thought it was okay. Next time, add aromatics (celery and onion), maybe a little beef or chicken bouillon? Dried mushroom?

The Mouse needs more research on the beef cheek. 🙂

Stay safe and well.
