As mentioned previously, Christmas Eve dinner at Herringbone. The Cat, The Mouse, and a couple of friends and associates (orphans in a storm). 🙂

California Avocado Toast

Romanesco, crispy parmesan, tomato confit, Fresno chili.

Not bad, The Cat preferred the avocado toast from Il Lupino.

Yellowtail (Hamachi) Crudo

Truffle yuzu (what’s that!?), crispy garlic, green onion.

Not bad, more than “meh”, The Mouse thinks The Cat would’ve probably preferred an izakaya or sushi bar preparation.

The Cat’s order:

Local Snapper

Farmer market vegetables, citrus miso glaze. Again not bad, The Cat thought the fish was just ever so slightly overcooked. And you know with white-fleshed fish, once you pass that line, it’s all downhill from there.

The Mouse’s order:

Miso Mushroom “Carbonara”

Udon, snap peas, farm egg, chilis.

The Mouse didn’t mind his order, with the caveat that there’s probably a similar dish at a ramen joint at sixty-percent less. Maybe the mushrooms raised the price. Sigh.

Bok Choy and Mushrooms

Crispy taro, island vinaigrette.

The crispy taro was good, except The Mouse didn’t rescue it from the broth fast enough, edges got soggy. More long beans than bok choi. The vinaigrette gave the dish a sorta southern collared greens vibe. The Mouse is still deciding if that was a good thing.

Overall dinner to paraphrase Maxwell Smart/Don Adams …

Would The Cat and The Mouse return? Yes, with the caveat for happy hour only.

Mele Kalikimaka to those so inclined. Have a great day to all!

Enjoy. Eat well.
