Picked up from the farmers market over the weekend.

Banana Flower

Vendor explained how to break this down. The Mouse remembers peel the harder petals, slice thin, salad or soup, and something about bean sprouts.

Peeled the first layer.

Buds?

Okay, maybe this was the bean sprouts reference. Tasted one, bleh. Run to Google. One site says to peel the buds, but not worth it. One site says to just discard. Not much help.

After a bit of peeling, finally get to the softer inner petals, slice thin. These things oxidize (starts to turn brown) instantly. Run to Google again. Soak in acidulated water. Okay.

Vinegared Water

Tried a slice, kinda hard and pulpy. Not gonna risk a salad. Into The Cat’s noodle soup.

The Cat’s Noodle Soup

The Cat said the texture was kinda bamboo shoot-y. The Mouse thinks he needs more education/training on banana flowers. Maybe from a “grandma or auntie”.

Oh well, try try. 🙂

Enjoy. Eat well.
