Not really a supermarket, more a member warehouse (Japanese style Costco/Sam’s Club?). Have to travel “over the mountain” into Kalihi. Result is The Mouse doesn’t visit too often.

Store inventory is a mix of Japanese/Asian products and regular grocery store items.

Went this weekend to see if feet were available (pork or chicken). No such luck. Either went too late and inventory was gone or they don’t carry (like the supermarkets on “this side of the mountain”).

In The Mouse’s cart:

Frozen Lotus Root

Easier than breaking down fresh (fresh first, frozen for convenience).

Frozen Japanese Taro (Araimo)

Again, fresh first, frozen for convenience.

Canned Bamboo Shoots

Again, The Cat prefers fresh, but …

She thinks canned bamboo shoots has a can smell, to try and counteract the smell, The Mouse soaked the shoots in plain water for about 20 minutes, changing the water once.

Bamboo Shoot

Tried it in The Cat’s soup bowl.

Vegetable Soup

The Cat said the bamboo shoot was okay.

Last but not least, a non-Japanese product purchase.

Frozen Waffles

Didn’t see this in any other grocery store, must be good, made in Belgium. Let you know when we try.

Enjoy. Eat well.
