Have Knife, Will Travel

I could’ve also named this post Murphy’s Law strikes again.

Auntie M’s house, new stove, not working properly, turkey half done. Luckily, our cousin (the infamous B) “suggested” we go over early to help.

The years of watching MacGyver and YouTube finally pays off (a big mahalo to Chef Chris Cosentino!).

Luckily packed my trusty battle axe and the old Willie apron (in employee only green, company let’s you keep the apron, even after you leave their employment).

As an aside, The Cat and The Mouse picked up a Chinese roasted duck as our contribution (turns out, if Murphy won, the duck was plan B).

Followed Chef Chris’ instructions and broke down the turkey.

The aftermath

While not perfectly executed, not bad for a rookie (if I say so myself). The turkey was maybe half cooked.

Microwaved the whole breasts, thighs, and drumsticks, then popped them into the toaster oven to “brown”, finally “sliced”.

Tah Dah!

While my timing was a little off (a minute or so less in either the micro or the toaster), at least there was cooked (not necessarily roasted), turkey on the table (plan B too). Overall, not the best turkey I ever had, but surely not the worst (far from it actually).

Plan C would’ve been to throw the pieces in a pot, add shoyu and sugar, and water to make simmered “shoyu turkey”. Uhm, probably not.

After that, it was off to meet one of our late mentor’s wife for late dinner at her club.

After the first “dinner” the second was very anti-climatic (nothing extraordinary happened, maybe a good thing ). Hee hee.

So … how was your Thanksgiving, anything interesting you want to share? Ours was … interesting, funny, dramatic (or traumatic), and memorable, all at the same time. 🙂
