This ended up in our freezer (long story).
Part of the writing on the bag: USDA exempt; for Buddhist religion. Uhmm okay. Wait … what does USDA exempt mean?
Inside, a whole, frozen, silkie chicken.
Head and feet attached. Ick!
Supposed to be good for soup. The Cat thought about cutting it in half to cook two different times … but it was one solid “chunk”.
Only thing we could do.
Threw it in our largest pot, filled the pot with water, set it on simmer, and went to work.
Ten or eleven hours later, house smelling of chicken soup, took out the “carcass” (luckily, it stayed in one piece), added goji berries, pinch of salt, dash of bourbon, and wakame seaweed …
Soup did taste a little different, still chicken soup to me.
Of course, I had to add green onions to mine.
I think the color, and the head threw me for a loop. Alfred Hitchcock, you still making movies? Have I got a prop for you. Ewww, Ick.
Chicken soup for the soul? More like chicken soup for the dark side. Hee hee hack snort.
Enjoy. Eat well.
