No, The Mouse did not go whole hog (oops, sorry, heh heh) vegan, just one meal dish. Downbeat Diner touts vegan options on their menu.
I’ve eaten here a couple of times, once a regular burger (meat!), and once, their vegetarian chili and rice with a side of scrambled eggs (chili and eggs, one of the best combos anyday, almost anywhere). Curious about the vegan/vegetarian options.
Tried the vegan burger for lunch.
Even vegan cheese, can you imagine?
From the side, looks pretty “normal”.
I think the patty (not “burger”) had black beans, maybe some type of grain, it’s a mystery to me. The patty, while not dry, definitely was not “juicy”. Taste was good, could definitely tell it wasn’t “meat”. Not bad for non-meat, but still, it’s non-meat.
Okay, been there, done that. For dessert, ordered a non-vegan salted chocolate chip cookie.
Usually, my cookie of choice is oatmeal raisin but this was gooooood! I think the salt added a little “oomph” to the overall cookie experience. Must order again (socks off good).
Next visit maybe will be for breakfast food (served all day), something non-vegan (returning to the dark side, with cookies). 🙂
Enjoy. Eat well.
