Warm Buns

No, not what you’re thinking.

Took the last seat on the bus today, last row, next to the engine compartment. Warm  seats, warm buns. Good thing the weather is getting cooler. Hee hee.

Just thought I’d share.

Half-day work, ten minute bus ride to the middle of downtown, Friday open market. Main reason, to pick up a loaf of …

While I was there, picked a few other things.

And then lunch. I was debating between two sandwiches, a braised beef tongue sandwich or a charcuterie sandwich. Turns out both places were too crowded and kind of too hip for a little ol’ mouse looking for a quiet casual corner to have lunch and  read a book.

Peeked in a “hole in the wall” joint.

Smelled good. Give it a shot.

It was a little past lunch time and they were running out of food (a good sign, I think). Wanted Pinakbet (vegetable stew). Out. 😦

Two Choice Plate Lunch

Dinuguan (pork cooked in pork blood), Bicol Laing (taro leaves cooked in coconut milk), pancit (noodles), and rice. Very reasonable (about half the cost of the beef tongue or charcuterie sandwich) and very tasty. I’m not experienced with Filipino food at all, but I liked it.

I’ve tried the pork/pork blood dish before and didn’t really care for it (it was too “grainy”), this one was more accessible. So far, I always like taro leaves (in any dish), so  that was a winner. My only comment is that the food was a tad salty for my taste. Can’t go too often.

A last note, not market day related. “Pilfered” this from the office snack table today.

A whole bag of individually portioned sized packages. Tried one at work. Adding these to my list of food kryptonite. Not to avoid, but too good to stay away from. A good start for the weekend. Have a good one.

Enjoy. Eat well.
