In the Kalihi area today, doctor’s appointment.
First choice was one of the cuz’s favorite take-out places. A little too out of the way (would’ve ordered a Chinese roast pork and kalua pork combo).
Second choice, the green river machine was out of order. 😦
Third choice.
Funny, it’s across the street of where my father used to work. Never tried it until today. Stamp of approval from cuz P, not B. Probably never thought to try it because I thought they did only “Bar-B-Que” which is not my first choice of “cuisine” (not really into the BBQ sauce).
Plus, it’s kind  of a “dive”.
When it first went up, I thought maybe it was a temporary structure, that was more than 30 years ago. Outside seating is … how should I say, showing it’s age. Oh well.
Luckily, one of today’s specials was pork laulau and kalua pork.
The laulau was surprisingly very good. Excellent ratio of taro leaves to pork.
More leaves, less pork. Nicely seasoned.
The kalua pork was also “decent”, nicely salty without being  too salty. Two paws up.
No Chinese roast  pork, but close enough. The laulau more than made up for the missing roast pork.
Enjoy. Eat well.
