In Good Company

Vincent, Paul, Henri, and The Mouse. Misunderstood artists. In my mind anyway (just kidding!!!).

Turns  out, the food “competition” was an actual competition, not an exhibition as when the organizer “voluntold” me. The judges were leaders of various Chinese “societies”. Some of the comments from the judges were “the dish was too plain” and “the colors were too dark”.

My perspective was that if the dinner was to recognize China’s national day (think the 4th of July here), and pumpkin and rice was the food that was available during a 1940’s siege at Nanniwan (think Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid or Davy Crockett at the Alamo), then the dish was thematically appropriate (see, a legend in my own mind). 🙂 The dark color came from the black forbidden rice that was in the grain mix. I tend to see food in historical (or is it hysterical) context anyway. The “austereness” of the plate just adds to the “ambiance”. 🙂

That’s my version and I’m sticking to it. Hee hee.

Our friend, YM, whom The Cat “voluntold” to enter made her “famous” tofu balls.

One of my favorite. The judges thought so too, she won a small cash prize and certificate. She was so happy, you would think she won the megabucks lottery. 🙂

As expected The Mouse did not win, not even an honorable mention, sigh. To paraphrase the great Yoda, Ohh. Great Chef. Wins not make one great. Hee hee.

All in all, a good night (good food, good company, good laughs), that’s all that matters.

Enjoy. Eat well.
