The Cat has this custom, whenever someone close returns from a trip, they share a meal soon after to wash the “dust” of travel off. I get confused and sometimes call it “washing feet”, must be flashbacking those darn Sunday school lessons. 🙂
Anyhoo, one of The Cat’s friends had a visitor and threw a little get together for him. On the menu, “tofu balls” (you didn’t know tofu had gender did ya? hee hee), pork bone and turnip soup, braised beef steak, bamboo shoots and pork belly, etc.
One of my favorite dishes M cooks (think lion head but lighter). Went a little early (without The Cat) to watch her prepare it. She doesn’t speak English, The Mouse doesn’t speak Mandarin. There was tofu (duh), ground pork, mushrooms, and some other stuff. Have to get The Cat to ask for the ingredient list and recipe. Sorry, the “finished” picture turned out blurry, operator must have been too excited. Sigh. Next time.
Tried a little bit of everything. Very iron chef worthy, not in a fancy, never-seen-before kind of way, but in a home-cooked soulful kind of way. Have to learn some Mandarin and take cooking lessons from M. I think I may have found a new shifu (think Kung-Fu Panda). 🙂
Enjoy. Eat well.
