Candied Clementines

The Chef’s mother sent over a box of candied clementines via the chef’s brother.

There were ten pieces in the box. A search on their website indicates it’s their trademark candy.

Candied Clementines

Small candied clementine topped by a layer of chocolate cream. Pretty awesome. The Chef took two, his brother took two, The Cat and I got four.

Even Chef is impressed (which is pretty hard to do). The flavor of chocolate and oranges, a match made in heaven.

Enjoy. Eat well.

Does anyone know what this is?

Got them from my auntie’s niece. She said they were some kind of cherries but I couldn’t hear the complete name. Didn’t want ask her to repeat (trust me).

Mouse Snacks

The Cat brought back some treats from her layover in Japan. We usually pick up treats for other people, we rarely get to try them. The time The Cat said the treats are for us. 🙂

The first is green tea chiffon cakes.

Individually Wrapped Cake

The Japanese are one of the best packagers.

Green Tea Chiffon Cake

Little bite-sized cakes, in the middle is a little green tea flavored creme. Kind of like a high-end Japanese style Twinkie. Very good.

The second package was little chestnut cakes.

Chestnut Cakes

Bite-sized little pastries filled with chestnut paste. Also very good.

Can’t decide which is better. Maybe the question should remain unanswered.

Enjoy. Eat well.

The Chef has a brother who is also skilled in the kitchen. In my mind, he makes one of the best oatmeal cookies. Ever. When he returned home, I got two cookies from him which I have in the freezer. In the mean time, I been buying oatmeal raisin cranberry cookies from one of the national chains. Although the cookies from the supermarket are very good, the brother’s ones are even better.

This week, the brother returned. I was ecstatic. Not only could I eat the cookies in the freezer, but I could get a fresh supply source. Alas, the cookie production is put on hold while a reorganization takes place. This reorganization better happen soon. I’m waiting. Patience grasshopper, patience. Sigh.

Oatmeal Cookies

The brother’s cookies in on the left, the supermarket cookie in on the right.

Eat well.

Pictures from The Cat’s Trip

Some pictures from The Cat’s trip, she went to Shanghai for her college class reunion.

Mixed Noodles

Simple ingredients. Noodles tossed with oil, green onions, salt (or soy sauce), and pepper. Easy to prepare, hard to master.

Breakfast Buffet

Built in the 1920’s. The buffet is included with the room price. The Cat said it was decent.

Dining Tables

Kind of old world vibe. The Cat said we can stay there next time.

Vegetarian Dish

Not sure if this is tofu or gluten. The texture is kind of spongey.

Green Tea

Assorted Snacks for High Tea

One of  The Cat’s friends took her to the Bund area for English tea.

A Closer Look

The Cat forgot to take a picture of the English tea and cup. She was kind of distracted.

Some kind of commercial  was filming nearby.

Rice Soup with Greens

One of the meals The Cat ate when there was nothing scheduled. Comfort food.

Can you guess what’s in each  of the containers?

From the top, soy bean, prawn, and duck’s tongue. Quack quack, or maybe no quack since no tongue. Hee hee.

The Cat took more pictures, these were just some of them. Time for a cat nap, still jet lagged.

Eat well. Meow meow!
