A Twist

I love kalua pork and cabbage. The Cat likes it too. One of the few dishes we absolutely agree on.

This weekend, while The Cat is still travelling, I thought I’d scout out a new place, Uahi Island Grill (131 Hekili Street, Kailua, Hawaii). Initially, what piqued my interest was their burger. However, the more I thought about it, I wasn’t too sure about the tamarind sauce to dress the burger.

I ended up with their twist on kalua pork and cabbage, kalua pork with kale.

Kalua Pork with Kale

Choice of rice (I chose brown) and mac salad, steamed veggies, or Korean slaw (I chose the Korean slaw, bean sprouts, watercress, carrots with toasted sesame oil). Socks came off.

My one complaint was that the kale was a little sparse. But the pork was very very good.

Luckily, the restaurant is near a Whole Foods market. Ran in and picked up a bunch of kale for home experimentation. Will post about it soon, if not the next post. Stay tuned.

Enjoy. Eat well.
