Our cousins invited The Cat for dinner last night at 3660 on the Rise (3660 Waialae Avenue, Honolulu, Hawaii) and I got to tag along. 🙂

The Cat started with the soup of the day (cream of asparagus).

The crunchy stuff on top were ricotta cheese croquettes.

For her entrée, soy sake fillet of butterfish.

Sesame stir-fry of bak choy, Haricot Vert, and asparagus, ginger dashi nagi.

I ordered dishes that are similar to what Chef offers, just to compare. I started with one oyster on  the half-shell.

Oyster on the Half-Shell

Topped with ginger vinaigrette (instead of the traditional mignonette sauce) and tobiko caviar. I didn’t mind it, B thought it was a little too sweet (she tasted one of P’s, he ordered six).

Next, I ordered the clam and corn chowder. Roasted red pepper crème fraîche.

My second course was mesclun of ‘Nalo greens, vine ripened tomatoes, lemon miso dressing.

‘Nalo Greens

I was particularly interested in the lemon miso dressing. Not bad at all, the lemon and miso flavors were very subtle.

For my entrée, I went with another appetizer, braised Kurobuta pork belly. Currently, Chef doesn’t have pork on his menu (something I have to work on with him). But pork belly is my kryptonite (one of many).

Braised Kurobuta Pork Belly

Caramelized Maui onion, natural pan juices, grilled flat bread. In my humble opinion, this was the best dish of the night. The skin was slightly crispy, the meat to fat ratio was perfect. The socks came off at the first bite.

For dessert, we shared a trio of daily dessert samples.

Trio Sample

Crème brûlée, chocolate mousse cake, and a chocolate peanut butter brittle. All were excellent.

If you’re wondering why the cousins wanted to take The Cat for dinner …

That’s Why

The plate contained three chocolate macadamia nut filled crispy wontons which The Cat shared.

Thanks P&B.

Enjoy. Eat well.
