Felt like I hit the jackpot at the grocery store the other day. Found these gems.
Not just any old pork bones, but leg bones (the ones with marrow in them). I made pork bone soup with Chinese dried cabbage. After taking the bones out, I lightly roasted the marrow bones for The Cat (slurrp!). 🙂
For a picture of the dried cabbage, see here. Besides the pork bones and the dried cabbage, I also threw in dried Chinese dates (aka jujube), and dried shiitake mushrooms for flavor. The Cat said the soup was better than the ones served in restaurants. Better be, it’s made by The Mouse (just kidding).
The tongue was a good find because the butcher had already split it. We can’t handle a  whole tongue at once (too much). After simmering and taking the skin off, I braised half of it in some leftover tomato sauce (I would like to say it was home-made, but alas, it came from a jar). I did “doctor” it up a bit (think Sandra Lee).
It was like “buttah”. If I had a choice, this is my go-to pasta sauce from now on. It’s going to be hard to go back to meatballs. The socks came off.
Just me having fun in the kitchen.
Enjoy. Eat well.
